I am by no means an expert on Scagel knives, even though I do build Scagel style knives. The back of the sheath is stamped Abercrombie & Fitch New York and William Scagel sold knives through A & F from 1920 to 1929. Many of the knives Scagel sold through A & F were also stamped A & F as well, this knife does not have that mark, it is stamped with the W Scagel Handmade with the kris stamp. The knife itself appears to be in excellent shape the blade and blade tip are intact, and no gaps or cracks in the handle and appears to have the original sheath. There is much more information on William Scagel knives in James R. Lucie's book Scagel Handmade, on Scagel's knives, it's a good book your brother should consider getting a copy. All in all your brother has a fantastic knife and it's an incredible piece of cutlery history. A crotch stag Scagel hunter style knife is on my short list of knives to build.
