Hello,

I am new here and knew to knifemaking. I am trying to learn by doing some kit knives and starting to buy the proper tools for making blades myself. I inherited a Skil 3104 Bandsaw. It uses 62" blades, but I can't seem to find any for metal cutting that are that length. It is apparently so old that SKil no longer lists it anywhere on their website.

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott Stevens

Welcome SKSTEVENS. My guess is that the skill saw will be too fast to cut metal. Dont get rid of it. You will cut everything else with it.

Thanks,

It has variable speed control, but since I can't find a manual for it, I don't know the speeds. Seems to run from a complete stop to whatever the full speed is.

If it's one of those three wheel bandsaws, it won't cut much of anything harder than wood and plastics. They use an induction motor that is fractional horsepower, hence the variable speed on an ac motor, and just don't have the juice for serious cutting. They are made for light hobby things, like model airplanes, etc.

I would suggest the horizontal/vertical bandsaw from Harbor Freight. The one with the 64 1/2" blade.

BTW, welcome to BFC! Enjoy!:D

It is a three wheel bandsaw. I don't know what type of blade is on it, but I tried to cut a lawnmower blade and it barely scratched it.

Thanks for the info; always better to know the truth than be ignorant. I will look at the one you suggested.
