You know the stuff . Lots of people use it on decks and docks . Can I mix in a home made water based walnut stain ? Now heres the kicker . The walnut stain requires at least three sessions of six wipe on wipe off applications to give a reasonable color . So by extension it is easy to see it the thompsons would have the same application . could I reduce the water in the original walnut stain by 1/4 to be replaced by thompsons ? I would completely replace the water in the stain by thompsons except to me it would give me too high a ratio of thompsons in the finished product . It would also increase the price of the stain which is more or less free except for labour .(we won,t even go there ! ) L:O:L What ratio of thompsons would give me a very good durable seal ?
On a separate note: I am afraid I may have given the wrong impresion and should have looked for a water stain compatible (sp) natural product . If I am to mix the stain with something other than Thompsons i would look for something less processed . Perhaps some kind of french polish or other rubbed finish as this would blend in nicely with the wipe on wipe off multiple application of the stain . Anything that would give me a durable/water resistant and glueable surface would be of value . I could completely replace the water in the original stain with this product as long as it would make a good base for my homemade stain .
