Is Ed Wusthof the same as modern day Wustof trident ?

Im looking at a cleaver Im going to bid on on ebay if so . But I've never seen a " Ed " Wusthof knife before. This is supposed to be circa 1980 so maybe its just an older makers mark of Wustoff Trident I've never seen .

Heres a picture.

or the vintage Wusthof ??? I've heard F. Dick has superior steel just dont get alot of recognition .

That is the German name of the company even today. So that was made in Germany for the German market. It's legit.

I can't comment on whether or not it is better than the F. Dick cleaver.

Steel-wise, Wusthof and F. Dick use very similar steel in current production. X50CrMoV15 in the Wusthof case and X45CrMoV15 for F. Dick.

Very cool . Thanks JC . I've always heard it Called Wusthof Trident , never heard the name Ed associated with it . The fact it was made for the german market is even cooler to me .

This is going to be going in my Wusthof knife roll with a set of Wusthof Classic Ikon knives I'm building so I guess it would be appropriate to go with the wusthof as opposed to the F. Dick

I missed out on the 50$ one . But I got this beauty 90 bucks with free expedited shipping .

The name of the company is Ed. (perhaps Eduard who entered the family business in 1817) Wusthof Driezackwerk like on the box. The company was founded in 1814, but the family was in the biz before that. As best as I can tell, the Trident name is used in the US.

Never heard of the ED. The way it is punctuated after the ED. part I was wondering if it was some sort of title for the company like Co. or DBA. Because what I found was Abraham Wusthof was the original founder .

WÜSTHOF – a family business since 1814
The name Wüsthof first appeared as a factory in the records of the Duchy of Berg in 1814. It was in that year that the family's ancestor, Abraham Wüsthof, founded his "factory for fine steel wares", which is now known as the Dreizackwerk. The business has remained in the family ever since. Today, Harald Wüsthof and Viola Wüsthof is the seventh generation of the family to manage ED.WÜSTHOF DREIZACKWERK KG.

There were two guys named Eduard that ran the company in the 1800's.You see those abbreviated trade names with a lot of old firms like Geo. F. Trumper in London. The founder was Mr. George Trumper. One of my distant ancestors made razors in the Ruhr Valley of Germany back before WW1 and used the name W. Mandt which was short for Wilhelm (William) same as my great-great-grandfather and his oldest son who came to the US back in the late 880's
