Hey all

As the title says, QuickClot 1st Response vs. Combat Gauze.

I know that 1st Response is a clotting sponge, whereas the Combat Gauze is a impregnated gauze, but whats the differrence between the two in terms of applications? What situation would one excel as opposed to the other?

Hope some of our EMT/paramedics/doctor/medical-trained members can chime in!

Are the two haemostatic agents wet or damp out of their sealed packs like alcohol swabs or are they dusty and prone to powdering the region after compression?

They look like they are infused with the active ingredient making them dry. The product description reads self-contained clotting sponge
and folded gauze impregnated with kaolin. From reading up on the net, I think the powdery stuff has been replaced by this.

EDIT:
The first generation of the QuikClot granular product, made from non-hydrated zeolite, was discontinued in 2008 when the hemostatic gauze formulation based on kaolin was introduced. That earlier granular product could cause exothermic reactions if not used properly.

I have Quickclot and Celox. Gauge is better than powder.

The old formulas were very exothermic, so there was an issue of being burned. Apparently, that is no longer a problem.
