I bought a very nice looking 'hunter' made by R A Matt some 10 years ago. Nice desert ironwood scales with glossy 440C blade.

I bought it off a hunting forum from another long time member and have absolutely no issues with the deal nor the knife. I have 'Googled' the guy's name and very little is written up on him and what I have found is years old news. Seems he had somewhat of his own website and displayed some very nice knives..........much with the same looks as my 'hunter'.

Just wondering if anyone else has any of his knives or has any information on him at all.....? Again......I have no issues with his work nor with him personally. His work is quite nice.

Thanks in advance........

R.a Matt was a maker on the east coast of Florida. I had heard he passed away about a year ago.he sure made some beautiful knives wish I had gotten one.

Thanks gobblergetter!! I appreciate the response.

He certainly did make some very nice looking knives. I must admit, of the many customs that I have had made and those that I've purchased over the years, my R A Matt 'Hunter' is the only custom that is just too 'pretty and shiney' to use afield. I don't roll that way as a rule, but it truly may always be a 'safe queen'.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

I have four knives made by Richard Matt bought between November 2007 and February 2008 they have been in storage and are all in mint condition they are a small part of my collection as I live in the UK owning multiple knives I could be viewed as a terrorist :)

Sorry guys, R. A. Matt bought pre-fab kit knives from Texas Knifemakers, slapped exotic wood or stag handles on them and a fancy etch then called them "custom made". Most of his scams were perpetrated on the ever gullible eBay buyer. Your knives are worthless. As far as I know he never truly made any knife.

i would finish it. keep it for a user knife. my first 25 knives were worthless, but my friends appreciated and used them. its the only way to learn.

Beer Hippy, that is not the "same mass produced Solingen Blade" but as stated a Cattaraugus 225Q blade from WWII, note the difference of the fullers and the blade is even stamped 225Q. John

I was just objecting to the categorizing of other's cherished possessions as worthless. There is way to much of that kind of rude behaivor online. You do have to admitt that those blades are strikingly similar though.

Beer Hippy, you are another example of a man becoming more like a woman. Your "political correctness" has gone too far, like most in this world today. Attitudes like yours have reduced this world to a bunch of self-entitled whining mamma's boys. It's no surprise so many 30 year old "men" still live in their parents basement. Tweet that! Thank you for the link you provided to my site, http://bgcustomknifetool.bigcartel.com. The Cattaraugus knife I restored is from a genuine World War Two blade and hardware, not a modern mass produced Solingen blade. Crazy Crow doesn't claim his blades to be genuine 225-Q's, unlike R. A. Matt who purposely misled many by claiming sole authorship.
A question was asked about this "maker" and I responded with the facts. But of course in this world today the facts, the truth, isn't what matters. Everything has to be sugar-coated or omitted entirely or even lied about so your sensitivities aren't offended. You're letting them take your first amendment rights now. Next is your second amendment rights and they'll go right down the line because they've got you right where they want you, lazy, ignorant and so easily fooled. Keep your head down and your eyes focused on that cell phone. Keep your hands affixed to those game controls. Believe everything the media tells you. Let them finish molding you into the mindless automaton they want. Next time Beer Hippy, do some research and think before you speak. The handle fits you perfect.

billgoodwin- I'm gonna give you the opportunity to edit your post before taking further action.
Disparaging and insulting others in the forum is not acceptable.

And Beer Hippy didn't disparage and insult me with his assumption that my Cattaraugus 225-Q restore was a fake? I spoke the truth. Go ahead and violate my first amendment rights.

Bill, Beer Hippy made that statement 8 months ago, and I agree that it was poorly conceived- maybe to the point of being trollish, but yours was made today, so that's what is the focus now.

There are many truths you could have stated, namely the truth of the knife you restored, without resorting to direct and personal insults.

As for the First Amendment, Bladeforums is a privately owned enterprise which can and does decide what kind of speech is acceptable and what isn't.

Being privately owned also means that Bladeforums relies on people who use the site to promote their business and make sales to pay their share by purchasing a membership. I notice that virtually all your posts in this forum are sales posts, yet you don't seem to have paid for a membership.

Bwahahahahahaha!!!!

First amendment rights? :foot:

I had a KnifeMaker / Craftsman / Service Provider Membership for two years, it recently expired. My web site tells me where recent views originate and I noticed I'd received a view from Bladeforums. When I clicked on it I was taken to this page, so I just became aware of these Beer Hippy comments. I clarified the nature of my reconditioned WWII Cattaraugus 225-Q knife and it's clearly stated on my site. Beer Hippy made unfounded assumptions and called me a liar, "It is the same mass produced Solingen blade found on this restored knife :http://bgcustomknifetool.bigcartel.c...leather-sheath. I'd really like to meet this guy, enough said! I was ready to reinstate my paid membership, it's nice to know that Bladeforums puts their beliefs above our founding fathers, I'll have to rethink that. Say what you want about me, that's your right, just make sure it's the truth!
