Ragnar - A custom viking sword

Here is a custom piece that I recently finished for a long time customer. It is a monosteel viking sword. The hilt is made of wrought iron. The handle is antler with copper spacers.

I'm not familiar with monosteel,what are its properties?It sure is a fine looking sword though,I really love the handle!

By monosteel he means that the blade is made out of a single steel type, rather than being pattern welded.

This piece actually started out as a stage combat custom sword. The customer wanted a high end viking sword to show off at the live steel events he does. It ended up much more then that but he still wanted to be able to spar with it if he wanted to. Doubt he will ever do that with this piece though as he did not expect all the upgrades that I did. That being said this is a medium carbon stage combat blade on this one. Meant for taking daily steel on steel abuse but not the best edge holding steel.

Thanks Wolf. I honestly viewed this as a blank pallet. Ready for engraving and carving, but the customer wanted it as is. So I am already in the planning stages of a Multi-bar pattern welded version with all the bells and wistles.

I think patinating the fullers would look good.

Maybe engrave some runes on the hilt.
