I never did take a lot of gear on trips and it looks like not much has changed.
This is basic gear I will be taking in a few days on our upcoming adventure in Peru.
I hate gear lists everything can be seen in these pics.
If it isnt in here, I dont need it!
Travel gear
The clear blue pouch is for the passport when I am in the jungle. I can put a small camera and passport inside.
Carried on belt loop and in pockets.
The carabineer kit is always on my belt loop and gives easy access to the stuff I use the most and need to get to without having to open my survival kit and risk anything falling out. With it, I can light the way to and around camp, sharpen my SAK, strike my firesteel, or whistle at the girls and check general direction with the whistle. All of it can stand being wet from the swamps and rain too.
The survival kit is in a small Aloksak kept in my pocket
Orange works well in the jungle, its usually in my pocket.
Pack
Gossamer Gear Minimalist lined with a plastic kitchen bag
Same gear I usually take into the tropics
Contents in plastic bag
Tools
Machete/SAK
After the jungle this one of my essentials. It makes the bad man go away.
I hate boots and would like to take something else besides the Altama Jungle boots, but the black palms are the main thing that scares me in the jungle. Maybe I will hike into camp with them and switch to crocs with a closed toe.
Total base gear weight: 3 pounds 3 ounces
