Random Leek, old vs new

Hey all, just had a question about the Random Leek. Outside of some relatively minor cosmetic changes, is there any real difference between the original Random and its newer counterpart? I know the older one is discontinued, harder to locate, and will be valued accordingly. Steels are both s30v (I think);there seems to be some difference in the serration pattern. Recently picked up one of the original Randoms (a factory second), hasn't arrived yet but should make a great user. I have a couple other leeks and really like them, especially the g10 s30v, great fishing knife. Was just wondering if anyone has hands on experience with both the old and new versions.

Thanks,
Chris

The new RLs haven't left the factory yet, but I have experience with the scalloped serrations. I prefer the new serrations to the older "aggressive" serrations because the new scalloped serrations don't snag as much. The new serrations might be harder to sharpen though.

The new Random Leek also has a grey Chromium Nitride finish (better looking IMO) instead of the Tungsten coating, but both are equal in terms of durability and corrosion protection, I think.

Other than that, I don't think anything has changed.

I wish a BORON Random Leek existed...talk about a sweet knife!

Yes, as nygf mentioned, the only difference between the new and old Random Leek is the finish, and the serration pattern.

The first articles of the new RL should be out by the end of May/early June.

The second series Random lists:
Kershaw Random Leek A/O. 4" closed linerlock. Partially serrated Sandvik 13C26 steel tanto blade with dual thumb studs. 6061-T6 aluminum handles with stainless pocket clip. Lanyard hole. Both blade and handles have gray Chromium Nitride coating. Speed-Safe assisted opening system.

I put up a pic of it for someone a few days ago. here it is.
Beautiful. I'm thinking about getting one for EDC.

The steel is actually S30V, not Sandvik. I'm pretty sure the handle is also 410A Stainless Steel, not Aluminum. Get one Mike, you'll be glad you did.
