That is pretty limiting on most flippers. Sad. What was the motivation to go after flippers?

That is very limiting law, no matter how you read it. At least it's written in such a fashion that one can make sense out of that which is banned from importation - which pretty much seems to be flippers, framelocks and linerlocks.

Sad day for Canadians...

At least the actual laws here on owning these knives hasn't changed YET, at this point we just can't import them anymore. These knives are still legal to posses and carry here, as long as you NEVER EVER EVER tell a police officer you are carrying your knife for "self defense" purposes, it is ALWAYS being carried as a "tool".

there is a much larger mechanism at work here, imo. I'll leave it at that, suffice it to say that flippers and knives in general are probably a pretty big trade market with consumers at this side of the border and suppliers at the other side...

Canadian border patrol just upped the ante on their knife policies. Looks like fixed blades may be the way to go.

They left you an "out" in the writing of this law - the first line states this law only pertains to "interested parties". It would seem if you don't give a crap then the law doesn't apply to you.
I'm not Canadian, but if I was, I wouldn't give a crap about the laws.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and this may not be a legitimate defense in court.

My opinion from the way I read it as I'm neither a lawyer nor a lawman!

The phrase, "interested parties" is the same as "to whom it concerns" which IMO addresses the law enforcement, not who may or may not be literally interested or concerned!

Also from this line, "it includes knives that require some preliminary or simultaneous minimal manipulation of either a flipper or other non-edged parts of the blade." I think that the law also will encompass anything that can be flicked open with a Spydie hole, a thump stud, etc. I think that more Canadians will be purchasing proxy U.S. PO box addresses and will be seeking ownership receipts predating the implementation of this law. I'm planning on investing in a Mail Boxes ETC type of Franchise business near the BC border :p

That's crazy. Are you allowed to carry fixed blades then?

This law only applies to the "importation" of knives, at this point our possession laws are a little different.

Yes we can carry a fixed blade here and technically there is no length restriction but the laws can easily be interpreted in different ways and it is always left up to an officer's or courts decision. If you carry a knife for "self defense" then nothing is legal here, a knife must always be carried with the intent that it is a "tool". I almost always carry two knives with me, my Carothers EDC on my belt and one of the 3 or 4 flippers that I own in a pocket. About the only time I don't carry a knife is if I go to a bar or concert and that may only happen once or twice a year now as I am an old fart.

More like what Betzner said, it limits almost all folding knives.

And as mentioned earlier, nothing in this prevents ownership - just importation - of such knives. It does, however, leave the importation of lockbacks unassailed.

You could just pay for shipping twice. Have a US proxy remove and ship just the blade. And then ship the handle and packaging in a separate box. Neither would contain anything illegal.
Casinostocks Casinostocks - you may want to add this to service to your business.

There was once, and may still be, an internet company out of Switzerland where one could buy cuban cigars. Their shipping charges seemed a little high. After placing an order you would receive a box of “Harry’s cigars” complete with “Harry’s” bands on them. A week, or so, later you would receive a Cuban cigar box with a bunch of matching bands in it.

An EDC 2 recently sold on the main sales forum. I really like the unbuffed green Micarta scales (as well as the whole knife!) that came with it. Congratulations Odog! Good catch. Mike

Thanks! I'm getting antsy waiting on my pre order and want to check out the shade tree scales.
May end up selling it in whole or part when I get my preorder.

Seems as if a lot of these EDC2s are going up for sale as soon as folks get them. Not as loved as the EDC1?

I can only speak for myself:

I scored an EDC-2 on its first Friday offering, thinking that my preorder fulfillment could still be a couple of weeks off (I was # 11 on that list, IIRC). I went with handle scales which I had never acquired before, in unbuffed OD green micarta. Lo and behold, I received my preorder EDC-2 a week or so after the Friday's sale (out of the 2 from the preorder, one was for Grog which he paid me for it and off that one went to its rightful owner). The EDC-2 from the preorder was in edgecut antique micarta, which just set itself apart from the grippy unbuffed OD green.

Then I was faced with a tough choice: whether to keep both my EDC-2s and sell off on last remaining EDC-1, or let the OD green EDC-2 go. Although I prefer the EDC-2 to the EDC-1, I did not want to have ZERO EDC-1 version left plus the fact that I had also bought 3 x Grog leather sheaths for that pattern and also an AZWelke pancake CF sheath plus a Sagewood dangler. Since there was no way I could recoup what I had in that EDC-1 back, because of all the extras, the choice came down to letting go of the OD EDC-2. Luckily, the Grog sheaths for EDC-1 happen to also fit the EDC-2 pattern quite well

TL; DR version: IMHO EDC-2 > EDC-1, but for me it came down to economics as I did not need 3 EDCs plus I had already spent a bunch of $ on CPKs in the prior 30-60 days through bachkchanneling and also the most recent BC preorder. Things tend to add up fast in this playground ;)

Nope, Post Christmas traumatization:eek:

Same here as what Tommy said. Holiday extras, bought plane tickets for both our kids to come home for the holidays, traveled to a wedding over New Years, lodging, gifts, and then the BC preorder. Something had to go, and about the only thing around in new condition was that pretty edc2 that had just come in the door.

Anybody know which number we’re on in the EDC2 preorder?
Got me some EDC2 edge cut antique micarta scales for my D2 EDC to hold me over!;)

Gus, looks like we're on the first page right up to and including @MikeKu825. Speaking of Mike, where the heck has he been? Hoping that all's well with Mike because he's been AWOL since early Oct and Mike was such an avid fan of the EDC pattern.

If you want my opinion based on no facts, I think that they'll be shipping out about 20 or so units for the preorder in addition to the 20 which will be offered for the Friday 1/19 sale.

 Thanks Mat. I was wondering what happened to Mike too. Hope everything is OK.
