Random Thought Thread

I'm with Casinostocks Casinostocks that this knife needs the benefit of the extra gription. Having said that, you guys know me.... I can't look at a knife without wondering what it would look like clad in wood scales. I've looked at the pictures of this knife a dozen times, debating if I should go for it. They look doable (no inside-out thumb rests, for example - what a pain those are to make!). I don't have the ability to do the fine machined texture, so they would be smooth if I attempted it. Might have to scratch this itch...

I suffer the same affliction ... I always picture a nice wooden set of scales ... if I had your talent to do so I would probably only own about half a dozen knives with micarta or G10.

I love micarta for practical use ... but that inner voice always says ... but wouldn't it be a beauty with x wood? ... must be a curse.

I'm thinking sharpened back tip and mystery wood on the preorder. The dagger grind is tempting but if you opt for it I think the right thing to do is to go all in and upgrade to satin too, and wood handles. Actually I'm starting to wonder if it's morally acceptable to order wood handles without satin. This is a lot of responsibility...

It's about like ordering a custom knife. It sounds fun in theory, but you can go nuts second guessing every detail and choice.:cool: It's so much easier to only wrestle with impulse control when a completed knife is posted for sale. lol

Whew!

I think Nathan mentioned that machining ebonite makes the shop smell like egg donkey farts. There’s been a number of ebonite handles already turned out by the shop at this point. Nathan cut those handles through 500 yards of shit smelling ebonite foulness I can’t even imagine, or maybe I just don’t want to. 500 yards. That’s the length of five football fields. Just short of half a mile.

Sure wish i knew what the Mystery Wood Was, Really only like Desert Ironwood or Cocobolo! Guess i will go with the Old Reliable Edge-Cut:thumbsup::cool: Double Edge OF COURSE;)

I'm torn between the 2. Love them both. I'm thinking you could always pick up a set of wood scales later, or vice versa. I'm assuming all scale options will be available for purchase separately. Hope so.

It probably won't be DI. But it's mystery wood so I reserve to right to use scrap particle board left over from a trailer park tornado disaster, or even used tongue depressor sticks and toothpicks picked up from a Denny's parking lot pasted together with old spam can shmoo, it could be anything.

I hate machining wood. So, you know, it'll probably be something awful just to be mean.

or it might be a mix of Cocobolo, Osage Orange and African blackwood. It could be anything. Who knows.

None of the scale options will be limited to the preorder sale will they? So if you offer stabilized kangaroo dung later for example...I could get that?

While it's possible there may be some left over after filling the pre-order, history indicates there probably won't be.

We're happy to offer loose scales in "standard" materials and we always stock spares for folks needing replacements, but special (read: pain in the ass) materials are usually only when Jo twists my arm. Hard.

Thanks Nathan. The options list is pretty cool and appreciated.

I don't think the old (Westinghouse) micarta is standard (?), but sounds like between that and wood, I better get wood on the preorder if I want that.

Was hoping for DI or Cocobolo, never dreamed it would be something as exotic and beautiful as "Stabilized Scrap particle Board Burl" from a Tornado Park Disaster, with tongue Depressor sticks and toothpicks inserted:eek: Simply INCREDIBLE-I am in foe 2 of these Beauties;)
