Hey guys, does anyone know anything about the history of 1050's? I have what appears to be a rare one that has different markings on the ricasso then any others I have seen. I am wondering what year it may be from or if it may be one of the first editions? This one just has Kershaw on the left side and 1050/Japan on the other. Most I have seen have Kershaw Folding Field or Kershaw, Oregon USA on the left. Thanks guys:thumbup:

Hopefully kershawguy will chime in as I remember him discussing this before.

Try this page on my website. It will answer your questions to some extent about the 1050.

Thanks. I had already found and read that page via google but, unfortunately the knife I have doesnt match any of the descriptions listed in it. Mine just has Kershaw on the right side of the ricasso and 1050, Japan on the other side. No Oregon, USA, or Folding Field. It seems to be a rare one and I would like to figure out when it was made and any other info on it.

Interesting. Never heard of those markings. Would you happen to have photos up on a photo sharing site?

Here are a few quick cell shots...

Thanks very much for the photos. Strictly guessing, but I suspect that knife is from sometime between 1999 and the end of Seki production
as just "1050 Japan" on the right side appeared only after 1999. Very unusual indeed.

No problem, thanks for all your help:thumbup:. I am pretty sure it is much older then that. I just found out that it was bought in the 80's or maybe even 70's my father figured(him and my grandfather bought them around the same time). It is interesting that it has different markings. Hopefully someone can shed more light on this.

If so, and again this is speculation, but perhaps that knife precedes the ones marked Oregon. I say that because I've seen a 1030 with those markings, and that is one of the first 1974 models. Hope someone has some info on this.

Thanks again. Either way, it is cool to have a unique 1050, they sure are tanks. I hope someone does as well.

I sent Dave (kershawguy) a PM so hopefully he has some time to stop by.
