Hi,
perharps it would be a good idea to show the origins of the Jeff Randall / Mike Perrin line of cutlery ?
Where are now the old Laser Strike ? The Newt Livesay's ?
Me, I was in love with all their previous designs too.
So here are the pictures of a very old RAT Cutlery knife... one of the grand pa' of the nowadays RAT.
A Utility Skinner designed by Mike Perrin and made by John Greco !
Jeff send it to us back in 1998 (I think). (We send him a Spyderco Fred Perrin Street Bowie to test also as Jeff mention he really liked VG-10 steel...)
Ah, if knives could speak, this one would tell you a lot of adventures in the wild and in the workshop.
It's still my favorite hard used small FB (It's really heavy for a knife that size!!!). Of course it's 5mm thick and there is no holes in the tang to light the package. So it has a lot of momentum and can be used like a hammer.
But its high hollow ground blade is tough like nails and very forgiving. Rolled the edge many time and the 8670 Carbon steel (Greco trademark on that days) is easy to realigned and kept sharp as a razor. I have removed the coating on the blade and it never pits or rusts.
I especially enjoy the angle between the blade and the handle giving you the possibility to cut full power on a board with all the edge in contact with the medium. You can cut the hardest things with a lot of control.
I use it a lot and still love it. This is the kind of knife Riddick will enjoy... Really this design is excellent and very usefull in wilderness
cheers
