Hello I am John from Manchester - North West England
BOW-KNIFE-3.jpg

Hello there I was wondering if you could help me look for a special blade for an unusual knife.

I don`t know how to insert an image from a local file on my computer - I have no relevant images stored online.

I bought an old Appalachian bow fiddle bread knife from Liverpool and I asked a few bread saw manufacturers in the UK, America and Canada if they stocked a thin scalloped-edged 10 inch blade.

I only got one reply from a firm in Canada. The bow bread knife makers/vendors would not sell me just the blade alone.

The original carbon steel blade is Length - 276mm x Width - 0.4mm x Height - 9mm
The crucial centre distance between the 2 screws is 262mm.

I sourced a stainless steel blade from the Kidder company in Ontario, Canada which arrived yesterday but unfortunately it is about 10mm too short.

Do you know anywhere in Sheffield, the UK or abroad that would sell these blades to a retail customer or could you recommend a hand blade manufacturer please?

Many Thanks in anticipation of a reply.

You might post in wanted to buy thread and knife makers services offered thread....
Good luck....

Thank you

J jfk1110 for the reply and the advice.Sorry the post was probably in the wrong sub forum and I have just got the hang of image hosting.I`ll persevere to find the specialist blade in the UK if possible.

I could yes but it would spoil the knife; I could just fit the shorter blade.I don`t wan`t wood filler or extra holes in it at all so that is why I was looking for exact spec but could accommodate slighter wider blades.

This is first time I see knife like this one o_O I have right blade to make one given to me from someone .I am sure that it is not from bread knife .
Simple solution to your problem is to drill other hole on right place , why you don t want to do that ? When you find right size blade that hole would be covered if that matters that much to you ?
I will need to shorten little this thing

Looks like a blade an adjustable height cake cutter my mom had when she ran a small bakery with a friend.

Hi Natlek thanks for the reply to the post. The knife is for a present and I don`t want to butcher it, bodge it and modify it.I could have drilled holes and filled them but I am not doing that.
I am trying to source a suitable blade from a UK supplier at the moment; I am waiting for a response to my query.

Thanks again - regards - roaduck
