My brushes just arrived today....I went old skool with the Old Spice mug and Ever-Ready brush.....and also picked up a New brush. Not very much $$ invested so far....I can see what I like and go from there!

I am going to go with the Ever-Ready brush, I think it will compliment my Old Gillette nicely:D
pics of my setup at the sink and review to come!

Wow. That is old school. The Bass brush is badger. I'm not sure about the Everready.

I am going to start with one of the Dorco blades - there was a plastic box with maby 10 of them in it.....I also received a Merkur Super blade in the sample pack, but I am going to save that to use next!

also, I picked the Armani Code shaving soap...smells great!
will have time to shave later tonite....can't wait:D:thumbup::thumbup:

Ah, the adventure begins.

Dorco is what I would recommend starting with. The other blades are in that plastic box under the Dorcos when you're ready for them, Derby, Bic, and Feather.

And what a cool adventure! I did a little research on the pre-shave process. I soaked my new badger brush (the Ever-Ready looked a little beat for me after thinking about it) in very hot water. I shook it out and put just enough water on the puck to get it wet.

The Armani puck lathered up nicely and I lathered up my already wet face.

Took a Hot towel and let it do its thing on my face for 2 minutes. Re-lathered with the brush and went to work. The Dorco blade was as good or better than the Mach3's I have been using for a while now. The razor was easy to manage...I definately used a light touch. I shaved down first....quickly re-lathered and then shaved up (which I never do because it immediately breaks my skin out...bumpy and irritated).

Smooth till the end....I rinsed with cold water and put on some gel aftershave I had laying around. Now about an hour later...my face is still fresh...not irritated at all and the wife has already commented that I should come to bed early tonight:thumbup:
Thanks Gollnick!! This was just the nudge I needed to get into DE shaving! I do think I am going to find a better razor soon.....something a little heavier. I love the looks of some of the Merkur line!

I don't think we'll be seeing any more posts from Andy tonight.

I did a little google to see if I could learn anything more about this Every-Ready bush and came up with:

http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=58175

wherein the author describes how to restore an Every-Ready brush similar to yours and replace the hair with a new knot. There are even sources given for where to buy the knot. It looks easy enough. You may want to consider a similar project.

:D:D ......and now for the next morning....I would already have stubble coming in....but with the DE shave....Nothing!
wow....still super smooth and fresh.
This OLD but new to me way to shave just might save me some cash:thumbup:

The heck with a restoration of an old brush I just make a new one. I didn't know you could buy knots alone, the possibilities are endless:thumbup:

I don't know about saving money, even though the blades and soap are cheaper, they work so well you just keep buying more and more:p

Just ordered my first 100 blades off the bay---assuming a blade lasts me a week--my shaving cost(blades) is now down to $5.87 per year. Nothing like giving the big turned up finger to Gillette for all those years of sticking it to me--lol.
