Thinking of trying them on my spring walleye sojourn to Canada. Looking for those of you who have tried them for advice. If you have experience with walleyes great, but any and all pros, cons and tips appreciated.

I'm thinking the leeches, minnows and grubs. Normally we have our best luck on minnows in the spring.

No experience with walleye, but we wear the speckled trout out with their shrimp. Cheaper in the long run than buying live bait, unless your catching your own. Lot easier to handle and you don't have to use the live well. The only con I can think of is if you don't keep the bags sealed, they dry out quick. But the rehydrate quickly. I keep a variety in the little buckets they sell and they're always good to go whenever.

I've been using the Gulp minnows to good effect on bass and crappie, depending on the conditions. They keep in my tacklebox much better than live minnows, as well. I don't think they would beat real minnows every day, but I don't take real minnows with me every day. If you're trying to pack minnows a long ways from a bait shop, you wouldn't do too bad to have the gulp minnows along.

I can't catch walleye worth a hoot but quite a few folks I know that are heavily into the walleye fishing use nightcrawlers. Leeches work well sometimes also. I think the best bait for the dumb things would be a few quarter sticks of dynamite.

We have had good luck with the grubs for walleye, but like was stated, make sure the packages seal up good as they will dry out pretty fast. Also don't put the tubs near anything valuable because I has some leak and not only does it stink but it will also leave a oily stain on cloth.

I have used the xl leeches on largemouth, and the fish cant stay away from them... actually, i was having a hard time keeping northern pike off of them long enough to get the bass on.

I will also not that in many of the lakes I fished in Canada, you could paddle around for a few minutes and pick up as many leeches as you'd ever need! They seemed to be pretty common at the couple areas I've been.

I've used them for bass and pike.
They do pretty well, but they seem to tear up pretty quickly. But pike teeth are tough on a lot of baits

I live near the Gulf coast in the Galveston area. I too use them extensively for speckled trout, sand trout, and flounder(especially). I have very good luck with the shrimp tails, especially the 3" new penny's. I like buying them in the tubs with the juice. They work great for me under a popping cork on a 1/8oz jig, and on the bottom using a 1/4oz jig. Saves me a lot of money by not buying live shrimp. In fact, I've gone with friends who bought live shrimp, and caught just as many fish as they did. I love the Gulp alive shrimp tails!

Depending on the water, we use either the new penny's, nuclear chicken or that grey/white one under a Cajun thunder popping cork, good times. Love the hear that clack...clack...clack, and then see that bright cork disappear.

I have had good success with gulp alive products. Mainly on walleye and smallies. I used the 2.5, 3 inch pearl minnow grub on jig head with walleyes and 2" watermelon minnow on jig head for smallies. I have also had decent success with fishing blugill, perch, trout and crappies with the gulp alive crickets, 1" minnow, maggots and red earthworms. I've found if I'm fishing the product with confidence I do much better, meaning if I'm not dependent on live bait. The jars and buckets will leak on you though and the ziplock bags seem to not work well or me, my only complaint on alive products.

My experience is also on the Texas coast with the shrimp and swimming mullet and they work well. I like the new penny shrimp and the gray/white pattern as well. One of my nephews uses some of the shad and minnows on Bass with success.

I never had any luck with the leeches or the minnows for walleye or pike. Your probably better off getting some bait at a local bait shop. I would definitely suggest you bring a new container to replace the tubs. The smell lasted about 3 months before it went away and the oil stain is still on my back seat.

Just back from the walleye opener in western Ontario. It was tough fishing. Some lakes still had ice on them and the water was cold. Didn't catch lots, but what we did catch were all quality fish. Had a tough time getting 18 inchers to take home, most were 22" - 26".
As far as the Gulp, I took 3" black shiner minnows. Was fishing with my buddy who only used live minnows. I mixed it up between the Gulp and live minnows. Couldn't really tell a difference with catch rates, both worked equally well and matched or bettered my friends catch rate. They seemed to hold up quite well, but then I don't think I caught a northern to really test them.
Overall I'd take them again.

It is good stuff! I use the bright neon green grub tails in saltwater and have caught quite a few redfish and specks using Gulp! Sometimes I change colors but in general it is very effective and I like being able to leave a few packages sealed in my tackle box for the days when I can't get to live bait. I buy the big tubs full of grubs and the stinky liquid and when done fishing I dump leftover gulp baits into the tubs and the juice keeps them in shape to fish another day. Yes! spilling that juice is to be avoided at all costs as it stains and smells awful.
