Real Steel knives, anyone have any info on these knives

They're made in China. The prices they retail for should give you somewhat of a hint about their quality, which should be at least comparable to that of other similarly priced Chinese made knives like the Spyderco Tenacious, etc.

I'm actually intrigued by a few of these. 14c28n in fairly large folders for around $40 seems like a really solid deal. I feel like, since Kershaw has moved away from their 14c28n offerings, the $35-60 range has been a little stagnant and I'm hoping Real Steel will inject a little more life into that price range.

I've heard they are mechanically sound, but have some fit and finish issues - gaps between liners and scales, etc. I'm currently eyeing the Sea Eagle and H9 Takin, as both seem to offer quite a bit of bang for the buck and fit my blade length / shape preferences.

Oddly, KnifeCenter seems to be the only US dealer at the moment. Everywhere else has the models at MSRP, which makes them not a particularly good deal. I'm not exactly in a deficit of cutting tools, so I'll just wait until they start popping up on eBay on the cheapy-cheap.

I'm also keeping an eye on RealSteel. They've started out on the lower end of the spectrum. But they're using decent steel and their designs aren't bad. If they catch on, they could become the next Kizer or Reate. And that would work for me. :)

Yes, I agree.

There is always room for another quality knife company.

I will "wait-and-see" until there are more dealers carrying them too.

Have the H5 Gerfalcon (XM clone) and E771 Sea Eagle (heavily Shiro inspired). Both are wicked sharp, use bearings, are fun to flip, lock up tight and have no F&F issues that I can see. At about $40 shipped each they're dynamite work knives for cutting cardboard and flipping absentmindedly, and with the stonewashing you can't see wear. Kershaw wishes they offered this level of materials and workmanship...I know that's due to the low cost of Chinese labor, but that ship ain't gonna be turning around in my lifetime.

My Sea Eagle arrived today, as stated above it's heavily Shiro inspired which drew me to it, and it's quite the folder for sure, nicely done, excellent flipper too, solid detent, blade grind is amazingly flat the entire surface, no ripples, which is nice to see or rather not see ;) Lock up is solid, no play in any direction, pocket clip is pretty good also. Edge arrived so so, but then I am jaded when it comes to edges so this one will be getting sharpened up right away. A no nonsense blade shape, direct and to the point, ground down to about .025" at the edge bevel so it should cut good too. Made with the sandvik razor steel, I'm expecting it to take a seriously sharp edge.

Aren't the Strobe and Nura on bearings? I don't know how they compare in quality control, but the upside of a Kershaw is that you can send it in and get it fixed regardless.

I'm very interested in getting a Sea Eagle and a Takin, but I know I'm going to have to wait until there are more dealers, lower prices, and a broader consensus of quality before I drop $80 on a pair of knives from a company whose sole previous exploits seem to be re-branding SanRenMu folders.

(Don't take this as being pessimistic or critical - just cautious.)

Bearings, sure; but both have 8cr13mov blades *YAWN* as opposed to 14C28N (not exactly M390, but a definite step up) and sketchy QC. Two of my strobe's scale screw holes are stripped, and the clip is wobbly.

The enthusiasts' group I'm a part of on a popular social media site initially only had access to one model from Real Steel. Since buying up a few of them we were able to start purchasing other models, and now some members have as many as five that were purchased in a two month span. That wouldn't have happened unless every last one of them was top notch, since we're a pretty chatty group. No need to send something in if it comes perfect and lasts, eh?

Waiting for my Sea Eagle as well, ordered it two days ago. Also interested in the Takin. Really like the design of that one. I bought mine from a Germanbased eBay-seller, the only place except KnifeCenter where I could find them. The shipping costs from KC would nearly have doubled the price for me since I'm living in Europe so that wasn't an option this time. I think I paid around 58 EUR.

First day of all day carry with the Sea Eagle, seems like an odd name but I've heard worse I suppose ;) folks at work marveled at the knife, especially how smooth the action was and over all fit and finish, may have sold a few today. I sharpened it up fully tonight, quite keen now. Only cut a few things as needed, it handled everything easily, from boxes to heavy plastic straps to my bag of trail mix :)

I will warn those that like a lanyard, while it has a hole to put some cord through, good paracord is pretty hard to get threaded through there! I had to pull out several inside strands and cut them off and then cut it at an angle to help get it through the hole. Got it through and I do like the small knot that helps to draw the knife out of the pocket. Makes it handier while sitting down, just grab the cord and pull, since there isn't a thumbstud to catch on the pocket, I don't have any worry of the blade coming open. The detent on this is pretty good, which also provides nice flipping action too.

All in all, I don't see any problems with this knife, at least the one I received.

Checking to see if anyone also has the Takin H9 to compare to the Sea Eagle

reckon not ;)

The G10 scales are shy of the steel liners but the distance works out really well, if feels as if it were just contoured, grips well in the hand.

Gary, question with the Sea Eagle. Is the clip on it reversible? It might make an exquisite classy carry and EDC with reversible, decent carry otherwise. Being a lefty sucks.

Sorry but no, it's not interchangeable

Do they make any folders with blades under 3"? I don't see any. I'm always looking for more 14C28N in that price range, but not if the blade is over 3".

They don't. That is why I don't own any RS knives as well. When it comes to brands, if there are no < 3" offerings, then I am clearly not their intended customer and am not interested in looking any further at their product range.

Have bought three of their M6s as gifts for others before though.

They don't have left handed people in China. Everyone is forced to right handed.
