I know I’m a little late to the game but I’m looking to add my first “Chinese-made” knife to my collection. I have nothing against knives made in China I’ve just usually preferred knives made in the USA. And I feel that with the strides some Chinese knife companies have made in recent years it’s time to take the plunge. After extensive research and watching reviews I’ve settled on Reate. Now I can’t decide between the K-2 and New Torrent. The K-2 is a little bigger than what I prefer and the Torrent is a little heavier than I prefer. I know I will probably eventually end up getting both but right now I can only afford to choose one. So please help me decide which one I should get first! Any input would be appreciated. Thank you

They are both great I like the newest version of the torrent better with the carbon fiber inlays.Reate are as good as f not better than anything made,i am so over the made in China crap; other companies wish they can make knives this good for the money. The k2 is great too im just not a fan of that blade style. either one is a 1st class top quality knife.

Here's the two together.

My Torrent is the original M390. It's overbuilt like a ZT. Amazing knife. Heavy, great clip, smooth, fills the hand, finger groove to choke up. Utility drop point harpoon blade, thick stock, cuts like a saber grind. +6 ounce knife.

The K2 is thinner and more narrow in the pocket and in hand. Smoothest action I own, plus hollow grind into tanto blade. The milling on the bronze version is great, if it appeals to you visually. More slicey and stabby than the Torrent, mostly straight cutting edge. More difficult to sharpen, depending.

My personal preference? The K2 is a better EDC because it's thinner and an ounce lighter with more blade. I carry it more.

The K-2’s blade shape does appeal to me and I think they are both beautiful designs. I’m assuming their actions are very similar. But it seems the K-2 is more pocket friendly and a better slicer?

Not to muddy the waters, but my favorite flipper tanto is the Liong Mah Warrior 2. They recently made another run. It's just so damn good looking. Also made by Reate.

I have a K-2 and would recommend it, I want a New Torrent but haven't pulled the Trigger because I have another Reate pre-ordered.

I have the K2. It's easily one of the smoothest actions I have ever owned.

It almost pisses me off how good they get the action on these knives. I have owned WAY MORE expensive/popular brands and models that could wish to achieve such perfection.

Regardless of your decision, you're going to get a pretty fantastic knife. It's up to you to decide which style suits your purposes best.

Speaking of great action my Valhalla has the best I have seen on any knife. This thing is simply amazing.

Reates have the best action from what I've experienced of "production" folders. WE can also put out a great action but they seem less consistent.

I keep going back and forth between the two but I think I’m leaning towards the K-2, OR I could just skip that and go straight to the Jack:p It’s both bigger and heavier than what I usually prefer but I find it visually STUNNING. And I don’t own any intregrals. So indecisive!!

Yep. Satin, Marble, Flame. :D
How are you liking the Jack? I’m debating on picking one up because the Hinderer that I want is out of stock everywhere. The only thing that really concerns me is the weight. How does it compare to your K-2?

It is definitely a substantial knife in every regard, weight and size won't let you forget you're carrying it, the K-2 is a lot lighter. The Marble CF is good overall but not perfect, one of the things that Reate doesn't seem to have down quite yet (Or more likely their supplier, since I have seen more than one mentioning of it being less than perfect). Aside from that it's pretty much perfect in terms of milling and grind, the detent and the action are very good and if you have large hands the ergos work well. If you like it, I would pick one up, JACK's are going to be gone eventually, RHK's are going to be still in production in a few months down the road.

Are the Jack’s a limited production knife or what? I was under the impression they were regular production. If only going to make a few then gone, might have to grab one.

Limited-ish, they made like 600-650 total. So once they are gone, they're gone and you have to pay secondary prices, whatever they might end up being. (I think it was 400-450 Total, but due to demand made more.)
