I'm looking for a new chopper, something longer than my Ontario SP-5 but thicker than a typical machete.

I want something 12-14" preferably, with more forward weight than a Junglas or similar but not as drastic as a Kukri.

<$100 but no cheap stainless, please.

Suggestions?

Kershaw Camp? I have the 10 version, and it is very well done for a Chinese made knife. I thought it was a very good value, and plenty of forward weight. An american made option at your price point might be the Woodmans Pal.

Condor Pack Golok or Village Parang are the dominant choppers I use. Many like the Kabar Becker BK-9 but it "only" has a 9" blade. I have the Condor Golok and Parang as well and both of those are probably not heavy enough for your needs. But I like both as well.

For the price, the basic Ontario 12" machete is pretty stiff and heavy duty. I just find them a bit hard on the hands.

KERSHAW Camp 10, 14 or 18.

I have chopped with the camp 10. It chopped very well in comparison to a basic 11 and KzII (Busse knives).

I really like the blade shape on the camp 10 but its no bigger than my SP-5. I wish the 14 was the same shape.

You can really go wrong with any Condor brand items, you get some great bang for your buck

The Ontario SP 51 heavy bowie has a 9 1/2" long 1/4" thick 5160 blade
and is just under 15" oal. Nice chunk of steel for $80.

Himalayan Imports balance knife kukri, 16.5" OAL 35 oz weight, 5/16" thick 5160 HC steel blade.

Save up just a little more for an esee junglas?

I've been incredibly impressed by my esee knives.

Hell I've been using my 6 to split firewood, gut fish and garden.
