Countless reviews, YouTube videos, and I’m sure loads of threads on the companion. I’ve known about them for a while and always had “better” options.

I didn’t really appreciate them until I got one about a month ago. Pretty neat knife. I’m not going to claim it’s the best ever, but I really enjoy it. Best 16 bucks I’ve spent in a while, and it certainly lives up to its name. I’m a fan.

I carry it in a Kydex sheath that cost more than the knife, but it’s worth it. Cross draw is a comfortable way to carry it.

Folks talk about how easy sharpening scandi grinds is, but I gotta be honest- I find it to be somewhat challenging. … and I consider myself an expert freehand sharpener. I get it done, but it’s a little awkward.

Anyway, just blabbering on about something worth a little more attention, but the model is long past its new and exciting phase. Pretty neat what Mora is capable of.

If you're not used to the scandi grinds, your technique might need to change. Start by laying the entire grind/edge on the stone with both hands. Apply light pressure and move the knife with both hands. Start by going backward, like you would strop.

Also - is that the sheath they come with now? That is a real improvement on the old ones!

Nah, it’s one I purchased for it. It was ~$25 which makes a big difference in my desire to carry it. The standard sheaths aren’t awful, but I agree the sheath upgrade is a big improvement.

The trick is to lay it flat on the scandi grind and lift it ever so slightly on the last 5-10 strokes and on touch ups so u get the tiniest microbevel. They get really easily scary/sticky sharp if u do this.

If u go for a true scandi edge it's a lot more work and the edge will be pretty fragile.

And yes the companion and the HD version are fantastic knives. I've been fantasising of one in 3V or something similar many times.

The handle is also amazingly comfy.

Could you possibly show the other side of the sheath? I would like to see what that crossdraw sheath attachment looks like. Thank you

Yeah, I definitely learned that lesson, which earned me more practice. I’ve gone to a microbevel, using a 6000 grit water stone.
Just for further elaboration, I do sharpen the bevel down to the apex, then add the microbevel.

Sharpening the belly of the blade is the challenging part. Maintaining the original angle is tricky. I find that I get the best feedback with diamond stones. If the knife was a straight edge, sharpening would be a breeze.

My Moras have never come with a true Scandi grind, they all had a small bevel, which is OK with me considering they work great even if abused. I've convexed a few of my laminated blade Moras -- they're incredible slicers and great for carving.

So where did you get the sheath at?
And doers it fit the HD models as well?

The HD models will fit, but the handles are a hair thicker, so it will flex the Kydex out just a little, but like I said- they fit.

Not sure if this particular weedy Forge is a contributing member, but Ragnar is no longer with us in the land of the living and I’m too lazy to check the list.

They can be found lots of places, I believe.
