No matter how many times I tell my wife NOT to put the kitchen knives in the dishwasher.......

Is there a stainless/dishwasher safe set that is recommended? I have some Spyderco and Victorinox steak knives that are dishwasher safe but I'm looking to start fresh with a nice new set.

Tell her the knives need to be washed like women wash their delicate undies....okay, I gotta keep my fantasies out of the knife world....is there a thing called knife kink? lol

HA!!

yes I know there's no such thing as truly dishwasher safe. You know, my parents had a set of Cutco knives that held up pretty well (1970's-2000's) Anyone have recent experience with them?

I usually buy cheap knives for the ones I know will go thru the dishwasher. The lower grades of the German brands. One of my favorite that actually worked well is a set of Boker colorcut knives. They actually used blade stock thin enough to cut well.

The cheap knives usually run the steel soft too, which is a bonus in this case as they will be steeled, stropped, and sharpened more frequently than the ones that are handwashed.

Realistically, the ones going through the dishwasher aren't sharp, which is still fine for many tasks like slicing soft fruits, cutting the kid's food to size, and things like that. Far sharper than a butter knife or edge of the fork but not nearly as sharp as the other kitchen knives or the ones I carry outside of the kitchen.

For full-on meal prep, we use the nicer knives and I wash them and will have my wife leave them to the side if she uses it and doesn't want to wash it (especially the non-stainless knives).

Commecial kitchen knives such as Victorinox Fibrox or Dexter Sani Safe.
This. we have a fibroid set, and they're very good for the money, and go through a dishwasher (cutlery rack on top, not bouncing around with the forks and spoons) just fine.

Consider using two sets.

None of our knives go through the dishwasher, but we have a set of “wash and re-hang” knives and a set of “pile up with the dishes and wash whenever” knives.

I recon you could do the same with “dishwasher knives”, unless your wife is truly a monster. (Lol - jk!)

Easy fix. You do the dishes/run the dishwasher. Problem solved.

I run the kitchen at home and the knives get washed dried and racked after use. No questions.

Also run the laundry but for that I tell the folks I don't sort or mess around. If anyone has something they don't want in the washer or dryer they better do it themselves.
