Howdy, frequent flyer here that’s tired of dealing with my belt. Yes I have TSA pre-check but I still have to travel though various types of security for my work.

I’m looking for a belt thats synthetic, but not the slide-type cam buckles the way that is typical with nylon webbing. Ideally, I’d find a plastic buckle that is traditional and fits my 1.5” leather belt.

Does anyone have any recommendations or sources for a good plastic belt? Thick webbing would be a plus, even better if it has zip pocketing on the inside to hide some emergency cash.

Check out the spec-ops brand better BDU belt. I've got a couple and like them quite a bit. They do not howeve r have a sewn in zipper for cash.

Fjällräven also has elastic belt with quick attachment that I've liked with my shorts and other lighter pants.

The metal detector is somewhat irrelevant to TSA, if they are in a belts off mood, then its belts off, even fully polymer ones. I've walked through some with my arc'teryx belt on (aluminum buckle) and not a worry, and I've been asked to remove my craghopper (plastic). So there is no telling. What I'd look for is a belt that is easy to thread, and has good adjustment for when you are sitting on the flight. I like my arc'teryx for that reason.

That said, the small zip in a money belt shouldn't set the detector off, and if it does, the stud of your jeans would set it off as well, so you would be getting the secondary anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about that being a concern, you can't really predict what you are going to get.

Check out The Wilderness Money Belt.
I copied the info below from their website.

The Wilderness Money Belt takes everything that's great about our complete line of belts and makes them even better! You can build exactly the robust, secure, covert money belt you have always wanted with all the options for buckles, colors, stiffness, width, and length that we offer in our other belts. The back of the belt features a flat, zippered pocket along most of its length. Size varies with the belt width, but they can each hold folded paper currency and most coinage.

5.11 TDU belt.

Have used them when travelling/walking through TSA check points for years, awesome belts.
Plastic buckle, super comfortable AND you can get them in one layer or reversible two layer belts, as you asked for a thick belt.

I have a stack of 'curved' custom leather belts - the 5.11 TDU belt has them beat hands down. Best belt I ever wore.

I have a Spec Ops belt with a plastic buckle, but like gadget geek said above, sometimes I had to take it off just because TSA felt that way, on that particular day. John

hahah nice, i forgot about these! i used to have one like 15+ years ago but didn’t know they had a delrin-ringed version. nice!

Hill People Gear "BACKPACKERS BELT". Absolutely the best. NO BUCKLE at all. Industrial Velcro adjustable. I have two and they are going strong for years! Micro adjustable, no, buckle, no metal, made to last!

My favorite plastic/nylon travel belt came with Craghoppers Classic Kiwi Trousers. If you want the belt without the trousers, run a search for Craghoppers Kiwi trouser belt. Lots of UK dealers, list price £5. Yanks will find it on US eBay for $10 or $11. It is the easiest to adjust and most comfortable I've tried; but it won't support more than your trousers, it's one inch wide, and it comes in one color (black). Two sizes: S/M for 28-36 (43" long) and M/L for 38-42 (51" long).

No problems at O'Hare, U.S. District Court in Chicago, or Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie. A county cop said it would set off the metal detector but he was mistaken.

On this belt, I have had issues, getting wanded after and being told I'd have to take it off next time. I was told the plastic is too thick.
