Recommend me a stacked leather knife

Ive been looking at Randalls again recently (dont we all?), so I wanna get something similar to scratch that itch.
Randall is unfortunately out of my price range for now, Bark River too. Im looking at something below $300.

I dont need a super steel, as long as the steel is not 420 im good. 440C & up is fine with me. Most important to me is a proper construction with a threaded hidden tang & a nut in the aluminum pommel.

Something in the hunting knife category, similar to a Randall Model 5, or a Linder Mark 1 or 2. Everything im finding is either not threaded (like Ka-Bar, Case or Fox) or has been discontinued for years. There's the Linder Traveller, but im looking for something a bit more "premium". Helle out of Norway is aesthetically quite different. Ive seen that Hanwei out of china makes some similar knives, but I have no idea how they are constructed. I could try to find something vintage, but condition is usually not stellar & blade quality is unknown.

Any ideas?
Im based in Germany in case that narrows it down.

Well, if you want the Randall, get the Randall. Save up for it rather than getting anything else just for the stacked leather handle. I also once thought that the Randall was out of my financial comfort range, until I got the first one...and then the second...😁

Here, I'll make it a bit easier for you. You know you want this, not some cheap substitute:

Olumin Olumin Welcome to Blade Forums !!

Hand made Quality, usability, good heat treatment, excellent designs.

Bad ass all around knives in my unsolicited opinion.

As T TC said though - if you are set on a Randal , get one.

Im sure Ill get a Randall eventually, sooner or later, but for now Im fine with something in the ballpark. Also I dont think im patient enough to wait 6 years for mine to be done o_O

Ill be off to work soon folks, so I wont be lurking for a few hours. But keep em coming, all very much appreciated.

Maybe look at a used fallkniven, they do a couple with leather stack in either CoS or vg10 laminate. Also look at blackjack. Maybe even search custom leather stack on ebay I see a few interesting ones there from time to time.

A little over budget but the Fallkniven Northern Lights NL4 Convex ground 5.11inch blade VG10 laminate. (VG10w from 2022).

I also think you should get the Randall you want. $50 deposit locks in the current price, 5 years will fly by, and it will seem like a bargain. Because the price would have gone up about $125 by then. IMG_1443.jpeg
I regret not ordering mine sooner, I went without a Randall for 20 years because I didn’t want to wait 3 or 4 years for it to arrive.

But there are a lot of stacked leather knives to choose from in the meantime.

Personally I wouldn’t order a clone of anything, it won’t scratch the itch for a real one. Every time I used it I would be reminded I should have got the real one.

Thanks everyone. I will agree with some members here that buying a clone like a Blackjack is not really my goal, for one because they are almost as much as the real deal & secondly because I just wouldn't feel right owning a clone. The Fällknivens look nice but im not the biggest fan of convex grids & they were above my budget.

There certainly are many makers here who do amazing work. Some of the ones suggested would absolutely do the trick, but im not sure about their pricing. I will look into that!

Well, thats why I said under $300. If the Linder Mark 1 or 2 were still made, they'd have been perfect. The listing price of Randalls is not so much the problem as the 6 year waiting list is. Ill probably end up stretching my budget a little (as im sure is usual here on BF, lol!) & contact one of the custom makers here. From the prices Ive seen posted, they're not a bad deal at all for a full custom.

All hat being said, Ill probably put in a order for a Randall #5 5" aswell. As some members here pointed out, the wait isnt getting any shorter & they arent getting any cheaper, so the best time to order is now.
