Hey all! I'm looking for a potential bday present for my buddy,
He recently came to me looking for a 2 inch or smaller blade, (school requirements)
I want to get him a 2 inch or smaller "tactical" style folder, it has to be of decent quality, but for a 2 inch blade, I would prefer it cheaper than $35. A fixed blade might work, let's see what you can come up with!
Thank you

A two inch "tactical style" folder on a budget? First thing that jumps to mind for me would be the Cold Steel Micro Recon 1 knives:

I really like the Cold Steel ideas (One of those companies I leave out too much). The Boker Nano and the Spyderco dragonfly I second. For around two inches I would also look at small neck knives when it comes to fixed blades.

thanks guys! I like the idea of the mini tuff light, becuase you say it fits the hand like a larger blade.
any opinions on kershaw chive?

i like the boker, and the spyderco.. just a little bit more than I want to spend right now.
But I want to give him something I would rep, thats why Im leaning a way from the CS, nothing against the knives, I've just moved my personal tastes elsewhere.

when I think small edc, BM Mini Ritter is the first thing that comes to my mind. love mine!

I had the Kershaw Chive for a while. Great Little knife, but the handle was almost too small for me to use.

The Mini Tuff Lite is one of my favorite "little big knives", but I recommended the recon knives instead because you asked for "tactical style", and IMO the Recon knives have more of that to them than the Tuff Lite/Mini Tuff Lite do. IMO, the Spyderco Dragonfly knives are even less "tactical style" still.

For your parameters (2", tactical, cheap) I still think CS is the way to go, but hey, if you can't do CS and the Nano is too pricey, how about the Subcom or Keycom:

I don't about a chive but my scallion has been a pretty good knife, actually ran it over with the 6000 pound tire of a Freightliner. For some reason the pocket clip is abnormally tight. Blade centering is still perfect :)

The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 with a wire clip, is a nice little package, that's surprisingly ergonomic for it's size. The VG-10 can get scary sharp, and has nice edge retention. The Boker plus Subcom is a nifty, minimalist, modern folder. Their 440C isn't too shabby, and very nice. I like mine a great deal.

The dragonfly is great, but actually above the 2" needed to pass OP's requirement.

What about the spyderco ladybug? It's in your price range and has a 1.928" blade.

I third the cold steel tuff lite, breaks in nicely, able to be middle finger flicked out after the spring tension lessens a bit and it resembles a 'dalibor pollux' or one of the Strider fam with it's choke finger choil and opening hole.

Brous Blades has his Silent Soldier Ranger V1 on sale for 49.00. One amazing blade. 2.5" blade overall 5.2. I love mine!

Best small knife I've found so far like that is the ESEE Candiru. love mine to death. Really can handle pretty much anything reasonable I can throw at it. Unfortunately it's a bit over your $35 mark.
