Redneck Toothpick

I'd say the blade shape does too

Looks like another sorry, ripoff, piece of junk.

Hmmmm...looks just like an old gerber LMF, without the quality. trying to sell them?

EEEEewwwww!!!:barf:
No blatant knockoff there, no-sir-eee...:jerkit::rolleyes:
Walk away, don't look back, and you'll be happier.

*holding nose and walking away*

I am in no way associated with that website or these knives. I was asking about experience (not opinions which are a dime a dozen). I'll take it that none of you have any experience with this particular knife.
For the sake of discussion (because of the similarity of this knife with other designs) how is it that this is a 'blatant knockoff' while so many other folding lockback knives are not spoken of in the same way? Many of them (like here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=697425 ) look virtually alike with similar blade designs and composition, but aren't referred to as knockoffs. I'm not trying to justify this knife in particular but there rings of a certain kind of accusation and arrogance without experience that seems to me to be hypocritical (at least from some of the comments) that's not applied across the board to other knife designs. We are all probably aware that 440 stainless (when properly heat treated) can be a very good knife steel.
So just be consistent in your 'opinions' about all or none. Personal accusation has no place in this discussion.

If you like it go ahead and get it. But be aware of what you are getting. For $9 you are getting what you pay for. 440 stainless can be many things. If you are lucky it will be 440A with a good heat treat. But do you really expect that for the price? The cast metal used for the tang guard and pommel is usually cast aluminum on knives of this price. It is not very durable and tends to crack or break with moderate to hard use. Look at the "rough use knives" on this page. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ItemListing.aspx?catid=682
I have not used one but many here have given them good reviews as very tough knives for the money.

Not this again...

The knives you linked to are of a specific style and are similar, not blatant ripoffs of another manufacturer's unique design. It's a $9 knife, for cripe's sake! If it was a $40 knife that looked similar to the Gerber LMF and had a less retarded name than 'Redneck Toothpick' from a more respected manufacturer than.. OH WAIT, the link doesn't even say who makes it! No, I have never owned a Redneck Toothpick and never would but I have experience with other >$10 fixed blades of unknown manufacture (most likely china) and can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the knife you linked to is cheap junk. By all means buy it and take it out in the woods for a few days and tell us how great it performs.

Actually, it depends on the grade of 440.

For $9, the blade is likely made of melted down refrigerators.

If you like it, buy it and use it.

caveat emptor, let the buyer beware. A $9 knife is what you will get and if that is all you want, buy it if you like it. Don't buy it with the expectation of being able to put it to serious use, but it would likely make a nice wall display or a knife for an el destructo expedition.

as members said , buy & try it.you ca'nt be hurt at that price. my experience indicates that at that price quality is not possible. buy it & let us know how it performs.

Okay, I apologize for the blatant knockoff remark. Bad taste on my part.
But, I stand by the rest of my post and my suggestion to walk away.

Nothing wrong with calling 'em like ya see 'em. It clearly is a blatant knockoff, after all.
:D

"First Production Run" of what? Paperweight and doorstop multitasker?

OP, I don't mean any offense. Just couldn't resist. It's a nice looking knife, but that's about it. I'd suggest checking out the Fixed Blade and Review sections of the site and finding something that will make you much happier.

Maybe even something not as nice looking as the ad copy photo, but will be 100 times the knife whatever that is. Like a Mora.

Yeah, I know.
But, I've adopted the mindset that there is nothing new under the sun in terms of knife design. At one time or another, it's all been done before and there is just so much one can do given the knife as a concept.
My initial post in this thread was not in keeping with that mindset.:foot: I kinda fell off the wagon. Hence, the retraction.

I remember that knife from looong ago. I wanted one of those Gerbers so bad I could taste it when I was a younger man. However, making ends meet and paying bills got in the way, and, kept it out of reach back then.
So, time goes on and nowadays the knife industry has come a long way in terms of materials used. These days there are better knives to be had.:D
That one does bring back memories though. Reminds me that I'm so glad I'm where I am now as opposed to back then.:)
