I am in the process of building a small propane forge and need a regulator. Can I use a regulator off of an air compressor? Thanks,

I definitely would not. You can buy the higher pressure regulators with adjusting screw for the pressure you need from the propane supply places. If they don't have them, they know where to order them. The price is around $30 to $40. Propane is a heavy gas and will settle in low areas or build up in closed areas and is highly explosive. When used properly with the right equipment, it is relatively safe. If it is worth doing, do it right the first time.

I agree with raker, propane can be safe if set up correctly, I've used an acetylene regulator for years and really like it, may be a bit of overkill, but....also be aware that carbon monoxide will build up quickly in confined areas, use lots of ventilation, an investment in a CO detector, one that updates the readings every 2-3 min. would be wise, they cost around $50, you will be surprised how fast this deadly gas will build up!! BE SAFE! Have fun with your forge!! Mike & Audra

I use the regulator from a BBQ grill and it works just fine. Here is a picture of my forge (I still need to put the blower higher than the propane intake):

Hopefully this works,

I got mine at centaur forge for $28 and it is a fisher, they are one of the best made.

I just got done building mine, I opted for an adjustable, cost about $34 with the gauge. This way I can dial in and know what pressure the forge is running at, helps to be able to narrow the search down for problems when your finetuning your forge.

Ravenclaw, I'd like to fix a set up like that for melting brass, any chance you could email me drawings? It would be much appreciated.
