How To remove super glue from black DLC…

Yes, I’m the guy who wondered how hard I’d have to push against a tube of superglue, to puncture it. Turns out it’s not very hard at all, much to my disbelief and instant, repeated face-palming…

So now I have my baby - my Manix 2 DLC, slathered with a thin sheen of super glue -_-

I immediately stuck it under running warm water and repeatedly swept a damp cloth across it but the glue residue is still there.

- is there a way to remove this thin glue stain?
- I’ve read acetone (nail varnish remover) can be used but would that ruin the DLC?
- any other tips or suggestions?

The Idiot

PS I can attach pics if that might help

Acetone, and it won’t do anything to the DLC if it’s real DLC.

thanks fellas. I’m just worried that it’ll affect the DLC. FTR it’s proper DLC cos it’s Spyderco. I read it’s about as good a DLC as you’ll get.

WD 40 or alcohol won't work.
Nail polish remover will work, if you give it enough time.
Acetone will work pretty quickly.
None of these will hurt the coating.
Awesome, many thanks Bill.

When you say “enough time”, I envisage leaving the blade immersed in acetone overnight or something. How long is “enough time” do you think? Bill DeShivs Bill DeShivs

Nail polish remover's active ingredient is acetone (while at least the good stuff is), so either that or just straight acetone.

There is not a whole lot that will dissolve cyanoacrylate, acetone and MEK are two that come to mind. It may require several soaks or wipe downs to eliminate all the residue

If looking at nail polish remover, pay attention to how it's labelled. There are some watered-down versions out there, simply labelled as 'nail polish remover' and on which you need to check the list of ingredients for water & other stuff. Others will be additionally labelled as '100% Acetone' (this is what you want). I'd once assumed they were all pure acetone, but discovered the hard way that there are some weaker solutions on store shelves these days. Had to make a return trip to the store to get what I really needed.

Nail polish has included moisturizers and other stuff in it.
If using it, just keep applying/rubbing until the glue is gone. I doubt you will have to soak it overnight- just a few minutes.

Don't get these solutions on your handle if it has paint, rubber, or plastic parts.

Albert Einstein on a Rickenbacker? That's about the coolest thing I've ever seen. You have an awesome sense of humor man.
