Removing Carpet Tape From My Floor?

I have an area rug that I attached to my wood floor with double sided carpet tape. This worked well for about a month, then the tape and the rug began parting ways. The tape however continues to demonstrate its ability to stay stuck to my floor. Very well stuck.

Although the floor is old, I don’t want to distress it more by scraping at the tape (tried a small area and that didn’t work too well anyway) and I would rather not use any caustic solvents. All together there is maybe a total of one square foot of the stuff.

So: is there something recommended to get this stuff off my floor? Maybe some home-brew cleaner? Any suggestions most appreciated!

WD-40 has worked for me in the past. I spray it on a rag and wipe it on the tape residue. After a while the gum will soften and it can be scraped up with a wooden/plastic scraper. You can also use another rag to mop it up once its soft.

paint thinner works great just go to your local home depot or lowes or what not and ask for mineral spirits put a little bit on a rag then wipe off the residue it works fine but its a little bit smelly so you can but the uncented version

Start with vegetable oil. If that doesn't work, go to WD-40. With either, allow time and elbow grease.

Goo Gone. Citrus based solvent, dissolves adhesives without harming wood. I use it all the time to remove tape and sticky hooks from the old unsealed wood doors at work.

Least invasive way would be to heat it up with a hair dryer/heat gun to soften the adhesive and scrape with a plastic scraper. then take a light amount of goo gone and wipe away any residue
