Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone's figured out a way to replace regular plastic buckles with cobras?
I've got a Maxpedition Kodiak and id really prefer a nice stout cobra over the existing plastic one, but the only way i see that happening is if i were to take the stitches out of the webbing connection on the female end swap the buckles than re sew it on which would no doubt weaken it. Has anyone seen a product the maybe has a bolt threw connection that would eliminate the need to re sew?

thanks guys.

Yeah just have someone tailor it in. It's a common upgrade and doing some kind of halfway fix would defeat the purpose of picking a cobra buckle.

You might could get a "cobra style" buckle possibly with a bolt through, but because the real deal cobra buckles are load rated, the only way would be to re-stitch it. To be honest, if the person running the machine is at all any good, you won't get an appreciable difference in strength, the stitch would become the next weakest part by default. Unless you were planning on using it as fall arrest (in which case, meet my friend Darwin) it would simply be an aesthetic thing, coming down to the skill of the operator.

Im not planning on using it for fall protection or anything like that i just love cobra buckles and dont like the plastic ones. Ill see if i can find someone around here that could do it but if not i think i could modify one of the D-ring buckles to become a bolt through.

I didn't think anyone would. The modification shouldn't be too terrible, its only aluminum as far as I know.

i found someone to replace the buckle for me but i than had an idea and i modified a 1" cobra to be a replacement/repair style buckle annnnnnd i might have a few modified by a machinist friend of mine so they are a little prettier and more precise for future use.

ive seen the plastic ones but thanks, im pretty excited to have the buckle swapped out just waiting for it to arrive.

Got my bag back super excited about it. Professionally sewn with nylon upholstery thread.
