You got it, wear gloves and it takes about 4-5min of straight up heat to get it weak. Glad to see you back Bush. Moose

So the new ones are epoxied in? interesting, I have a first run one, and just swapped the steel for a LMF army model fit perfectly, but drilling was interesting.
heat will break down the epoxy, don't breath it in though!

Yep, I believe most people use a heatgun to do it.

You can replace it with any 3/8inch firesteel I think

Out of curiosity, does any know what the actual temp for the epoxy to release is? Just wondering what temp of heat gun would be required.

The epoxy-in rods actually are easier to replace than the screwed in rods since threading the Ferro on a new rod is a total bitch if you're not real careful

LOL yea I broke 2 in the field (that I exchanged for a 4" rod) but knowing that could happen,I carry a back up :D

I'm not close to replacing mine yet, but I'm gettin another one and am intrested in the misch over the ferro one. (Have'nt tryed out a misch rod) So where do you look for them? I know Tex Tony has had what looks like 3 foot long ones.LOL ok 6=8 ins. So where do I start the hunt for em? Thanks ahead for any info. edgy

I used a normal cheapo craftsman heat gun to do mine. Didn't take too long. USE GLOVES, as mentioned above... I didnt start with any. Have water handy to dunk the handle. 3/8 is a perfect fit. In the photo I pulled the misch from a VERY old kit, put it into a brand new kit (using screws, the new bodies still have holes) and epoxied a new goinggear rod into the old kit. I've got a few rods from firesteel.com I'm going to put into a new kit or two. The old RAT kits had the most evil misch I've ever found. goinggear and firesteel don't even compare. But I find a 4-6 inch rod gets a few more sparks than the current run of ESEE kits.
