Would any body want to put up some side by side pictures of a Wetterlings axe and a Gransfors Bruks axe of similar size and model? and any input they have about the finish differences :)

Few axes from my collection:

Gransfors Bruks 25"
My girlfriend got this for me for Christmas last year. Goes through wood really well, came with a decently sharp edge, though it was noticeably asymmetrical, after sometime sharpening it was even and shaving sharp. Love the handle, very comfortable and ergonomic. Cuts through wood well, and not bad at splitting despite the narrower head.
Wetterlings 19"
I was very pleasantly surprised by this axe, the finish is right up there with the Gransfors, the hammer side of the head is finished unlike the Gransfors, which I like, and the finished cutting edge goes farther back, the grind was also even on this one from the factory. The handle finish is different, slightly more grippier which I don't like because it doesn't slide through your hand as you swing as well, but not enough to notice really. If I were to buy another axe in a different size say 13", I'd probably go with the Wetterlings because of the cheaper price, yet IMO equal quality to the GB, you're just giving up the 20 year warranty.

hmm all of the hatchets are held in differently, the Gransfors looks thinnest, does it cut better?

michaelm466, I wasn't aware that the Wetterlings didn't have a warranty, something I'd have to take into consideration.

Also thank you for your help and input guys, really appreciated

GB Hand Hatchet better for cutting (as a knife) shavings, Wetterlings and Hultafors- for chop thin wood chips.
In Hultafors most comfortable handle.

The Wetterlings seems to have a more multipurpose profile, the more wedge shaped head will spilt better.
Gransfors really shines in green soft woods, and limbing.

I've got the splitting mauls from both companies. The "fit and finish" is clearly superior on the Gransfors. In the first photo you can see that the Wetterlings handle contains some heartwood. I know this was traditionally seen as a flaw but I read on the Tuatahi site that studies have shown no functional difference between handles containing heartwood and those that do not. The sheaths are nothing special but the Wetterlings is held on by magnets, which is probably less secure but I've had no problems with it.

Gransfors alignment is about perfect as far as I can tell.

Wetterlings alignment is a little off.

Wetterlings: It may not come through well in the picture but there are some small gaps between the handle and the eye wall (when viewed from the top). There has been no movement or loosening so far but I've only split half a cord with it.

Gransfors is flush with no gaps.
