Hello I'm looking for a gift to give my uncle who is looking for a rescue tool or knife. He is a truck driver and whatever i get him needs to break windows and cut seat belts. my budget is $100. Any recommendations?

Spyderco Rescue and a Glassbreaker. Coming from somebody who was in a 100 mph multi rollover accident, make sure it is kept securely where it can't fly around and is accessible from a seated position.

Agreed with above. The Res-Q-Me is a far more specialized tool for breaking windows and cutting seatbelts.

How about a Byrd rescue knife from Spyderco and a spring loaded center punch. Throw a Buck folding hunter into the mix and he should have everything he needs. And, you'll have money left over.

I like the idea but it looks small and fiddly to me, but maybe one of these things you need to try in hand.

Ive got the Leatherman RAPTOR and couldnt be happier with it.
It has a glass breaker and a seat belt cutter. Very well made.
Can be folded and can be clipped in a pocket. Very stout clip.
Can also be either used with the holster on the belt or the holster can be truck dash mounted so as to be readily available. The Raptor can go in the holster folded or unfolded.
Shears can be used for everyday tasks and theyll cut through most things you throw at them. Very tough.
Comes in well under your budget.

I would combine some suggestions here and get him the Raptor and a spring loaded center punch for breaking windows.

I have the Columbia River Knife And Tool's Exitool 9030 Multi Tool (that's a mouthful) attached to both front seat belts in all my vehicles.
It is small, discrete, and is always right where you can reach it. For $20 each, I see it as cheap insurance, as I have yet to need them (knock on wood).

Good luck and enjoy

If you want a knife, while a SpydercRescue (in whichever flavour and size you like) is great, I suggest you have a look at the Spyderco Assist. Same Rescue concept + retractable carbide window punch and stouter.

There is also an orange model I believe.

Oh also, just a tip for everybody. Try your stuff out. Junkyards usually take a small amount and you can smash a window and cut a seatbelt. It gives you a little more confidence in being able to use your tools and see how they perform.

Excellent suggestion.

Or, if you are able too, join your local volunteer FD. Or see if you can watch an extraction drill.

There is a lot of gimmicky stuff out there. (Cough..rescue hammers...Cough)

A few tungsten glass breaker pics from the above linked to thread

Impressive.

Can you swing those strapped into a seat, upside down, with the interior of your vehicle slightly smaller than when it left the dealer showroom?

A simple spring punch has served FD's for generations.

Just to add a thought...If you come upon an accident, and need to help someone. Your vehicle comes with a glass breaker/extraction tool as standard equipment. Your lug wrench. :)

There is the Gerber/Hinderer rescue knife-I don't know too much about it other than it's existence, but I believe it covers your needs.

You'd be happy with any glass breaking seat belt cutting tool, in the scenario you describe above.
As mentioned in the link, we mostly just made the tungsten core glass breaker for the Glock, because we could. It was a fun project with a spectacular result.
I carry the RAPTOR myself.
Ive tested both; it actually doesnt take much force to break a window, if you have the technique down pat and know where to aim.
