I have an order for several 8" chef knives that the customer wants to give away as gifts. and he would like them to come in gift boxes. I figured it would be no big deal to find some, but have spent several hours searching the web and no luck.

Im looking for a box that will hold a 13" OAL chefs knife, 2" wide and 1" thick or so handle. does anyone have a supplier for those?

Do a Google search for "wood presentation box" or "bespoke wooden box". Use the images tab so you get pictures of all the boxes. Then click on the images of the boxes you like and follow the links to the manufacturers' websites.

excellent find M forge! Can't speak for Joe but I'm gonna bookmark that one.
The evidence knife boxes are really cool in a kinda morbid way.

I buy cedar and make my own. It's the cheapest way to get a high quality box. Cedar small staples and wood glue will get it done. You already have all the tools needed.

Have a look in your area for seniors woodworking community centers / clubs.

They have become popular here as a way of woodworkers accessing nice machines and sharing the costs.

There is always someone there willing to help you .

Thanks guys!!

I was hoping to stay away from having to make them myself. I would rather spend that time making more orders so folks don't have to wait so long to get their knives.

mforge, that is probably my best lead so far! they aren't quite as nice as I was after, but the size and shape are there. maybe add some black or blue silk inside with the knife and a couple of corks for the tip and heel.

I do have to leave the shop today to go check out the local hobby lobby, maybe they will have something that strikes me.

I guess its time to get away from the cut up cereal box and blue painters tape packaging anyways.

A plain cardboard box can be spruced up in a few seconds by ink stamps. Combined with a nice wrapping paper, it gives a very custom look without breaking the bank.

I recall seeing several on sale at a local Hobby Lobby- can't remember what size, though. Check your local arts&crafts store. You can also find other things a knife maker would use, like tube stock for mosaic pins, etc.

well, I went to hobby lobby, the party store next door, and office depot with nothing even close. did yet another yahoo search and bingo! found these

you have to order in quanities of 50, but the shipping is reasonable.

hope they are good boxes as I ordered $150 worth, but if so, they will be much nicer than the old cut up cereal boxes with blue painters tape.

Those will look really professional and white is always a good background for any extra labeling you will need to do. Good find!

I was going to suggest Boxco or USBox for white cardboard boxes...... I see you already found them.

Buy a full box of boxes ( the minimum order for any amount of price break) and you can put put every knife you make in a nice box for just a few pennies. Get a roll of nice foil stickers (I like oval shape) made up by Office Max, and put one in the center of the top of every box. The sticker should have your business name, real name and basic contact info on it ( phone and email). If you have a logo, it should be in the center of the sticker.

Stacy,

the stickers are a great idea. I was just going to write all that on the top of the box, as the folks that sell the boxes do custom printing, but have a 1000 box minimum order for that and Id like to see the boxes in person before I get that many
