Return of the Mudbug

From the socials
Just before the world shut down in early 2020, we began working on a prototype for the knife you see here today. To say we had a few setbacks might be an understatement: Covid shutdowns, 2 major hurricanes, and building a new shop just to name a few. We kept our nose to the grindstone (quite literally in some cases) and pushed forward because we knew folks wanted this knife and we needed to do whatever it took to get it to them. So over the past 2 1/2 years we’ve searched tirelessly to locate materials and commission parts from only the finest sources throughout the US and EU. Each lock is skillfully filed, each spring is hand-bent, each blade is carefully sharpened, and each knife is meticulously built in-house to the exacting standards for which we’ve become known. All this to provide you with a quality folding knife with rock solid lockup. So in other words, the Mudbug is officially back!

New Features:
-Stainless hardware for better adjustment and serviceability
-Stop pin for added rigidity and to eliminate lock bar slap/compression when closed
-Bronze pivot washers for smooth operation
-Hand filed/buffed lock fitment, tuned individually to ensure rock solid lockup for each knife.
-Hand bent spring, tuned to each knife.
-3D machined Ergonomic burlap micarta handle scales
Specifications:
-Length Open: 8 1/4”
-Length Closed: 4 5/8”
-Blade Thickness: 0.121”
-Approximate Weight: 3.8oz
-Blade Steel: D2
-Optional Sheath: Leather-Pancake
-Price: $195

Sales Information:
-The Mudbug will be released on Monday, November 21 online and in-person at our local outlet, Louisiana Power Equipment (870 N. Beglis Pkwy Sulphur, LA)
-Local/In-person sales will begin at 10AM
-Online sales will begin at Noon CST
-No holds or early sales. No exceptions.
-No phone, email, or social media sales.
-International sales: We will not be accepting international sales at this time due to the logistics and complications with shipping abroad, especially regarding knives. We are working toward a solution for this issue and hope to begin selling internationally soon.
-We have completely overhauled our website on a much more robust platform since our last Mudbug release and don’t anticipate any issues. With that said, these will be selling fast, so if you are experiencing an issue, it is likely due to low/no stock left. We will not have time to answer questions during the sale (email, phone, or social media), so please continue to try if you do have an issue. If you don’t get in on this batch, more will be available soon.
***Please Note*** Since this is the first Mudbug release in over 2 years, we expect for the stock to sell fast, however, we will be releasing subsequent batches very shortly. So if you don’t get your hands on a Mudbug this time around, you will have another chance very soon. Part of the beauty of building these in-house is that we have much greater control over supply and plan to release batches as soon as they are built. So more Mudbugs will be available, more frequently.

Basically a lockback Sod Buster with D2?
Looks nice. However, I have zero doubt I won't get one. My spending money is long gone by the 21st, I don't need one, and it is probably priced far, far above what I am comfortable spending for a knife, anyway.😇
Remember, if it sells out before you score one, it twern't me that beat you to it. 😁👍

I'm excited but $195 is steep for a D2, no? I feel like even GEC's aren't priced this high (well, maybe except for Northwoods). *Correction: initial offering price, not the secondary market price for GECs*

There are so many D2's out there (though less 'traditional') for waaaaay less...I know, they aren't USA made but almost four to five times the cost of other D2 knives...

Maybe it's a limited special run?

The new mudbug does look good. Nice to see they’re being built in-house. Larger knife than I like to carry, but hope they do sell well.

The sheath would be useless to me. I'm a lefty
Approx 10% of the population is said to left-handed
Why can't sellers/makers turn out 10% of their sheaths for left side carry?
Or a pocket knife sheath that is at least ambidextrous, because the knife is ... pretty much.
Of course I could have a custom sheath made but by the time I pay that "Lefty" tax, the price point is ridiculous

I like the look of these, although a bit pricey, I guess that is par for the course when the components are outsourced and then assembled hand finished and fitted in house. Shipping costs have gone up, and if the blades or other parts are from the EU that would also factor into the cost. I've got to give them a thumbs up for giving this project a try.

Looks to me like maybe the parts are made in Italy? I have no idea - it just kinda looks like some of the Italian “”modern traditional” offerings. A Maserin “Plow“ with micarta and D2 will run you about 55 bucks.

I like the knife but would never buy it, just too massive and I don't want any belt sheathes for a pocket-knife ;)

Looks a quality job and tough, price seems steep but ALL prices are getting steep lately :(

However, IF it is made in the EU or from EU parts it should be a bargain....just check out the value of the Dollar : Euro over say 2 years.. US knives used to be a bargain for us Europeans but now they're really costly.

The design is neat, sodbusters are great, adding a lockback to one seems like a good idea. To me the screwed instead of pinned construction is a bit of a negative, almost doubling the price, and only D2, don't know if I'm in on this one. Might grab one to give a try and support a semi local business.

id certainly be interested in seeing it first before any moneys changed hands. i have precious few lockbacks as it is and im fairly particular about adding new ones. that being said, mehhh

I would have said "Italian Made" if they hadn't said "Made in House".
I think there is a market for Lockback Sodbusters, I'd certainly like one.
I won't be buying one... screw construction, size, and price will keep me away.
