I never realized they made a plain edge version of the original CKT Random. I have the serrated version of the original CKT Random from June 05- it is a factory 2nd taht had some minor scuffs on the frame, function is unaffected. The serrations are very aggressive (and very sharp), they can tend to snag a bit in some fiberous material;the scalloped serrations on the new Randoms look to be more user friendly. I like the blade design, the reverse tanto tip seems to hold up better in hard use than the standard Leek (at least in my experience). Kershaw seems to do a good job with s30v, it takes and holds a very keen edge; all the Kershaws I own with this steel perform well, no chipping problems. Mine is sharpened on a sharpmaker, and will pushcut notebook paper with no problem. The action is smooth and fast, frame lock is very secure, zero blade play.
Overall, I'd recommend this knife highly. I would probably prefer the newer serrations to the older style, but it's a very good knife in either configuration.
