Well, after hemming and hawing and waiting and examining my and my wife's drinking habits, we've gotten a pair of REI Vacuum Infuser Mugs (12 oz.
$22.95 Item 748285)
Stainless with plastic tops and a stainless filter screen. REAL vaccum. Put near boiling water in and it's still too hot to drink 4 hours later! Durable, doesn't leak even after dropping 5 feet onto concrete.
This is way different than a french press mug. No moving bits. You leave the tea leaves or coffee grounds in place. Works fine, as long as you watch your coffee grind (stainless screen is about the same weave as a wire mesh kitchen strainer)
We have been moving to voluntary simplicity for a few years and part of the decision was to have a single cup each that handles tea, coffee, keeping hot stuff hot and cold stuff cold, travel, backpacking and work. While the "360 degree sip lid" ain't great, it fits the bill after a week of use pretty perfectly.
Very lightweight, lots of simplicity compared to all the other coffee/cocoa/hot stuff systems I've tried, and no pointy or protruding bits.
