Took my new Sog Force out with me the other day for a short jaunt in the woods on a rainy/snowy day. A new knife is like a new girl friend. First there must be an attraction. Looks are important,
I like the look of the Force,

It has some nice jimping on top but not so aggressive as to tear up your fingers when working. Also has a glass breaker on the end.

But looks soon wear off and there has to be more substance. A knife like a woman needs to be adaptable, well balanced, low maintenance, and able to survive a day or week in the woods without complaint. The Force balances just behind the guard. The knife feels pretty substantial, because it is. It's nylon sheath adapted well to my Moab 10, but will hook to a belt with equal ease.

It was colder and nastier than the pictures would let on. But the Force helped me in one of my most important chores. Building a fire, It had been raining for two days prior to my hike and it was snowing during it. The Force does feather sticks well enough. Since it was my first use of this knife I can only assume they will get better with time. Finally a Beech leaf caught igniting some birch bark, then I was home free.

I batoned some small wood, it did it well enough. Mostly just to see how it would handle it.

The Dog approved.

All in all, a good day. First date went well enough that there will be another. Stay Tuned.
