A local hunters supply has started carrying some custom Ken Richardson knives. They look sor "pretty" I wonder if they are usable. I remeber seeing Bass Pro had these similiar knives, but don't know if they were Richardson knives. Price seems too low to be true "custom".

Ken's steel comes from sawmill blades. Advertised as 1085 spring steel. He has been making these for several decades and you will find them at Bass Pro and Cabela's. I have had one of his fillet knives for 25 years and I would call it a user.

I was looking at one of his 6"-8" bowies to have as a general use/camp knife. Are they sturdy enough for this type of work?

I have only used Ken's fillet and hunter knives, but they are made to be used. He uses two thicknesses now, I think. Buy one with 6/32" steel and chop away!
His knives are always available on E-Bay.

I've used Ken's knives for many years. I got my first one back when I lived in Illinois still. This was the 80s. I've never had a problem with his blades. The ones I had really cut well and sharpened back up nice and easy. I had one Rockwell tested once and it came back at 56 which seems to be on par with many carbon blades I've owned.

If you see one you like it will most likely be a great user. I don't have any currently. I don't have but a handful of fixed blades from any maker actually. These days I'm primarily into folders but back when I used fixed blades Ken's were always seen in my collection.
