I've been looking at both of these:

Jones Tactical 1.5" Cobra

215 Gear Ultimate Rigger's belt:

Jones's buckle looks a lot bigger but it looks like the stitching on the 215 is a lot tougher.

Can i get some opinion? I would like hear your inputs on the toughest of 2.
I'm getting it for my training in the Army.

Thanks

My thought on the Cobra buckle is that Jones's version might be tad easier to loop through. On the strength of the buckle wise it's similar but it has to do with the overall construction of the belt, that is taking account of the sewing strength.

they look like duty belts more than riggers belts. if it won't go through your belt loops to hold up your pants its useless.
been wearing the current blackhawk riggers belt since 09 the one before this one since 04(it was issue at the time). done fine so far and fits through belt loops on jeans too.

riggers belts are to hold up your pants and hold you into or down on aircraft. a buckle that's easy to open is bad, may just end up falling out of a bird or bouncing of the insides of one.

seems like some of the riggers belts these days are over thinking it, if its to big it gets in the way of your vest or carrier. that's where your gears gonna hang (vest/carrier) not your belt.
check out the blackhawk and a good tether.

seeems like you misunderstand the poin of a riggers belt. Its to have a hard attatchment point in case your harness fails or you need to clip into something on the fly.

this is what you want: http://vikingtactics.com/belts_cobra.html

the cobra buckle you seem to like, and a steel clip in point.

i tend to go with spec-ops belts their riggers belt is awesome, and their better BDU belt is great for schools that wont allow you to have riggers type belts. Whatever school your going to check to make sure they allow cobra buckles and riggers belts. youll feel awfully dumb if they drop you from the course because of your high speed gear.

I have an Ares Gear belt with the Cobra S-Buckle, same as the Jones tactical. I don't have either of those belts, but the buckles have the same rating for strength, 9KN, at least that's what the buckles say. To me, the Jones looks like a thicker webbing, similar to the thickness of the Ares Gear. The amount of stiching around the belt is not as important as the amount where the buckle is stiched.
Lots of rock climbing harnesses have fabric loops for the rope attachment points, and they are rated much higher than 9KN. Most dynamic loads for rock climbing gear are rated up in the 20's. I'm sure the fabric loop is strong, as long as you are not cutting on it, or getting abrasion.

went ahead and deleted the rest because without what was quoted in the above post, what i wrote made no sense at all.
thanks.

To the original poster:

The two belts you are comparing are in two different categories. The JT EDB is a 1.5" wide belt with a 1" Cobra buckle, which comes out to 1.5" wide overall. The 215 belt is a 1.75" wide belt, with a 1.75" Cobra buckle which comes out to 2" wide. The belts are different styles as well, the EDB is a duty style of belt, where a portion of the belt overlaps at the buckle. The 215 is a updated riggers belt with a soft loop for hook up and a Cobra buckle instead of the steel quick fit buckle.

It also depends on what you want to carry on said belt, one is stiffer than the other. The 215 is just doubled riggers webbing with no stiffener, the EDB is made with scuba webbing, from the description on their website.

I don't like the cobra buckes solely because they won't fit through my belt loops.
I wear a Spec-Ops Rigger's Belt in coyote, love it. It's a great belt.
The Tactical ailor version is decent if you can get over the goofy plastic end, the Condor one is OK if you are fine with China made gear (that you could be trusting your life to) and the Original SOE one is the original and the best, but they have little to no adjustment.
I have not seen, worn, or felt the Jones, 215, Blackhawk, or 5.11 versions. I am very happy with my Spec-Ops.

I have the Ares Gear Ranger belt, with the Cobra-S. You just have to unthread the webbing on the one side, put it through your belt loops and gear, then thread the buckle back on. It only comes off one side, it's easy to fiqure out, but can be a bit time consuming. Once on, it's a fantastic support structure for gear.
