ring wedges for replacement handles

I have a few axes made in Europe. Ox-Head, Mueller, Gransfors-Bruks. All have the axe head secured to the handle with a wooden wedge and a couple of ring wedges. I had never seen a ring wedge until I purchased these axes.

Today in Indiana I went to a hardware store and almost bought a Council axe that used the same means of attachment, so I know that ring wedges are available in this country.

Does anyone know where to buy or order ring wedges? It looks to me like they will do a better job of locking the handle to the head (better than the flat metal wedges usually sold in this country).

Get the handle in right, you don't need those steel wedges. I say skip them.
I've heard this too. In fact I read somewhere that an old timer refuses to use them. My GB mini doesn't have one and it's fine. Better to error on the safe side though.

I've used the round ones. I'm not that much of a fan of them on an axe. But it was perfect on maul with a sledge type handle.

This here. If you hang it right, you dont need a metal wedge.

The old timer who doesn't like them is the gentleman in the national forest service videos. I also don't like them. Why risk splitting the handle and wedge? Put the time in and make sure the handle fits right. Metal wedges are an easy way out.
