RIP Phillip Baldwin August 24th, 2023. Phillip was the founder of Shining Wave Metals and pretty much THE guy in the US for Japanese and other high value alloys, as well as an accomplished blacksmith and bladesmith. For those of us who started in the 80s, he was sort of an icon. Testy icon, perhaps, :), but he wrote the book. RIP, Phillip. I hope someone carries on your work.

Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith Stacy, I tried finding the Deceased Makers thread but it seems closed. Then I tried to put this into Around the Grinder and the sub-forum says I don't have sufficient privileges (Gold Member idn't enuf.) If you want this elsewhere, please move it. I just thought Phillip's passing is worth noting.

Jim Kelso mentioned it on Instagram. They were longtime collaborators.

I just heard about it last night at a small gathering of NWBA members. As fitzo fitzo mentioned, he was a very talented blacksmith.

Too many of you older guys I learned from are getting too old!! 😥

I got a call from Dave Catoe last Friday telling me the news. I meant to post it but forgot.

Here is the Deceased makers thread:

If you want to keep up with who has recently passed on subscribe (watch) to the thread and you will get an email notice when there is a new post.

Thanks for finding the thread, Stacy. I have been "watching" it for several years but it has quit pinging me when there's a new post. Thread says I'm still "watching". Sometimes servers have glitches.
Thanks, again.

Cancel your watch and Re-watch it. The issue is in the new server a while back. It stopped many things that were good before. I had to redo most every sticky thread because the old info came up with a 404 error.
