It things weren't already bad enough, current predictions are that ammo prices will rise 5-7% due to a shortge of gun powder. :(

Newsweek: Ammo Prices Set to Rise 'Substantilly'

Thank-goodness, I stocked up w/enough ammo to last me the rest of my life BEFORE California imposed registration requirements on the purchase/sale of ammo.

Just hope there's never a fire in my house before I die. LOL! ;)

I have a second safe with just ammo. I just read that article on lunch. I knew it was coming. I’m going to buy a few more boxes of different ammo this weekend.

Somebody must be trying to make Chris Rock's dream come true.

“You don’t need no gun control, you know what you need? We need some bullet control.

...

I think all bullets should cost five thousand dollars… five thousand dollars per bullet… You know why? Cause if a bullet cost five thousand dollars there would be no more innocent bystanders."

-Chris Rock, 1999

Of course it also means that all the poor people can't defend themselves anymore, so it's easier to destroy their lives and take away their rights. And you wonder why crime is so rampant in major cities while gun control laws are simultaneously the most restrictive. It's to destroy the sovereignty of the population. It's nothing more than class warfare. The rich aren't affected while the poor suffer. Rich people can afford to stay safe and secure while the poor can't defend themselves, and when they do, they get the book thrown at them, legally speaking. Just for fighting back against criminals. The message is clear: if you're poor, then you aren't allowed to have rights and freedoms.

Please keep the political comments out of this thread. You have an entire forum from which to orate from your soap box. Please take those comments there.

A lot of these ammo panics are by design. Sam from SGAmmo is a prime example of contributing to this. Remember when Lake City cancelled all their civilian contracts? Well, that was all a fib. In turn, a great spike in ammo sales at elevated prices happened. Prices have actually been pretty stable for the last year. I would suggest getting what you can, while you can.

SLC is being looked at by Congress due to using military sales and funds and also selling commercially. There's a chance they may be restricted to military only sales in the future, or lose their gov't contract which wouldn't help them much either. The WSJ did a nice piece on this not too long ago.

The current issue is due to the two large conflicts, Ukraine and Gaza. The combatants have run through enormous amounts of ammo and stockpiles were shown to be drastically insufficient. They, and every country that's supported either side, is racing to replenish, increase their stocks, and continue to supply ammo, including massive amounts of small arms stuff. There's only so much production available, and they're just now talking about increasing the new manufacturing of either the components or the finished products.

Frankly, even with a huge increase in demand, the cost of increasing munitions production and the legal fees associated with that business make it extremely risky as a private venture and gov'ts are notoriously poor at ramping up production unless they are authoritarian. Congress can't even pass a bill to fund buying what's available; they'll take 2 years to authorize building a new munitions plant and then it'll still have to be built.

Ammo for civilians is going to take second place with current mfrs for, at least, 2-3 years after all the fighting dies down.

I found 147gr HST on sale for 400 a case right before the pandemic and bought 5k rounds. I was already sitting on about 1500 and I lost track of how much 223 in in the room. I feel bad for those just trying to stock pile or just getting into guns.

I heard it was winding up again too. This week I managed to find 5K of SPP and ten lbs. of Titegroup. Already had 6K of projectiles for our carry guns. We should be good for at least a year of training now (at $0.20 per round).

It is no fun to go through two years of "I can't train as much as I want to because I didn't think ahead". Trying our best to be immune to the next shortage.

Honestly, I need another 5K of components on hand before I'll stop worrying about it.
