So I've read countless reviews and comments that the Ritter RSK/Mini RSK is a great knife. However, since it is a collaboration with Hogue I was hoping that there would be more stock choices. The black is alright, sort of the vanilla of knife handles. The red G Mascus looks pretty decent too. Not a fan of the purple or others. The Green G Mascus and FDE G Mascus I think would REALLY set this knife off. Are there any stocks available for the Ritter Mini RSK? Does Hogue ever do a sprint run in the likes of Spyderco?

This knife is exclusive to Knifeworks. All the available stock is through them. You might find after-market scales?

G Marcus scales look ugly (and So do spyderco Zoom frn). Instead of changing handle color, it would be more interesting to try out different blade steel by Hogue.

Orange is a current production color.

So you got:

Black Orange Red Purple

And you don't like a single one. Maybe get the orange and dye it?

I already did the groundwork here. Besides scouring the internet, I spoke with Hogue, Knifeworks, and Doug Ritter himself. Nobody is currently making aftermarket scales for the RSK or Mini-RSK.

It's a real shame. The one common complaint about this otherwise excellent knife is the scale texture. While some people praise the traction, some of us find it a tad aggressive. It also chews pockets, especially under the clip. If somebody made some nicely contoured, quality G-10 or Micarta scales without that texture, I'd be all over it.

Get some 600 grit sandpaper and knock down the edges of the texturing

Something I would love knifemakers to start doing is releasing white as a handle color more often and advertising it as a "dye it yourself" kind of thing. Rit Dye is fairly cheap (you can get a bottle of it for under $10 most places) and dying g-10 or FRN isnt the most difficult thing in the world. It would really open things up for users and I bet if they offered them on their site for those that already own the knife for $40-50 or so they would sell a bunch of them that way as well.

I agree. My only complaint is the overly aggressive G10. I carried my purple G-mascus today and damaged a pair of slacks I wear for work. I guess sanding is an option, but I don’t really want the dust in my life.

Hopefully someone in that business is listening. I love my mini ritter but the texture is wayyy over the top for a sub 3 inch folder. Not like this is going to be pressed into hard use given its size it could deal with some more pocket friendly scales. Would love to see flytanium or someone else start offering micarta, Ti, or smoother G10 as an option here like they do for the Bugout.

You can take the clip off and adjust the texture to your liking with some fine sandpaper. I personally like the texture. It has a good secure grip and it stays put on my pocket. It’s never a good thing when your knife slips off your pocket and you didn’t notice it 😲

Yes, yes. I know I can sand the scales myself. I've actually done a lot of this with budget knives. I'm used to rounding crisp scale edges and such but again, with budget knives.

As knives get up over $100, I get increasingly picky about details. I also become increasingly aware of resale value. I don't buy knives with resale plans in mind but having occasionally sold or traded a knife, it's a real factor. A high quality knife in this price range can retain modest value even when well-used, provided it was cared for and reasonably maintained. Going to town on the scales with sandpaper seems at odds with that.

That's the other thing. Unlike smoothing a crisp edge or rounding off a pointy corner, what I'd want to do here would involve "going to town on the scales with sandpaper". It would be so much better if somebody just made nice, comfortably contoured, relatively smooth, high-quality scales in G-10 or Micarta. I would also entertain options in wood, Kirinite, or whatever else a company or craftsman wants to offer at a reasonable price. Since I'm not alone in this sentiment, I hope that a company or craftsman steps up to the plate.

I have already done this. It makes it better but it still doesn't address the rest of the knife scales and further I dont like to have to sand down G-10 (its extremely dangerous to breath in) if I dont have to. Additionally, with a well made pocket clip (which the stock clip is not) you dont need texture under the clip in order to retain your knife in the pocket. I have plenty of knieves that are untextured such as Ti or Carbon fiber that stay in the pocket fine. I love the knife (its actually in my pocket right now) but if they addressed the scales and the pocket clip it would really be elite. The action is better than my 20cv mini grip, the blade is thinner, the grind is thinner, the handle is more roomy, and the lock up is better. The only flaws are the scale textures and the weak clip execution.

A lot of knife companies make G-10 and TI handles that in my opinion are too slippery and lack traction. Who wants a slippery tool? - I certainly don't. You can always contact somebody who makes custom scales or pocket clip as they're many who would do that if you sent them your knife. I think it's perhaps slightly disingenuous to imply high traction G-10 is a "flaw", just a design feature that isn't perfectly suited for you.

Well so much of knife owning is personal preference and for me it is a flaw. Before sanding it down it would absolutely shred pockets. Before the whole lockdowns of 2020 I spent a lot of time in suits or slacks for work and a knife that is going to eat through your expensive pant pockets is just a flaw flat out. I own and love larger knives as well and if I am looking for a knife with the traction and size to never leave my hand no matter what I am cutting I will opt for one of those. Hell, I may even see the utility of keeping this texture on the fullsize Ritter for that very purpose. However, with the mini we are talking about a sub 3 inch folder with texture that would be appropriate for retaining the knife while breaking down bottles full of Vaseline.

Once again, I love the knife and it is actually in my pocket right now and has been part of my rotation for a few years now. That being said, if Flytanium or others released smoother scales i would buy them on release. Crossing fingers for contoured black canvas micarta.

There are many pocket shredders but Hogue Ritter RSK MK1 g2 is not one of them. I tried it just now on my running shorts. It gets in and out of the pocket with ease.

For anyone else who is looking to buy this knife and its mini brother, the sunburst G10 pattern on the handle is NOT rough at all. This is actually a very nice feature of the knife that separates it from many other knives (with slippery handles).

The sunburst isnt the problem. The problem is the raised sandpaper type portion underneath the pocket clip. It can and has shredded pockets and I am not the only one on this forum or in reviews that has mentioned it. Great knife, thin grind, good action, and a fair price. I love almost everything about it. But the scales and stock clip are its flaws.

Maybe you can bend the clip a bit? I actually don't like the pocket clip as it does not feel comfortable in hand. The Benchmade stock pocket clip is better IMO. I also don't understand why Doug Ritter increase the behind edge thickness as compared to Ritter Griptilian; the latter is a laser slicer.

I have thrown benchmade clips on mine in the past but have taken them off and replaced it with the stock clip. BM clips are better and they use the same mounting holes. The issue is that they have tighter tension which in turn, causes more pocket shredding. I have lightly sanded down the scales some and in all liklihood will go back and sand them further and get a new BM clip for it.
