as shown in this pic, the blade has some "Staining" this happened at a hiking trip to Yosemite when I handed the knife to my 13 yr old cousin sitting in the backseat so he could cut a piece of fruit. He did not immediately wipe it down and hence the staining. This has not affected the performance of the knife whatsoever.
I showed this knife to Mr Ishida (senior director ) at the USN gathering in Vegas, he said "oh because it's a carbon steel"
He then proceeded to strop it and it's scary sharp.
