Rockstead?

Does anyone have a Rockstead?

I’ve been really wanting one but have held off for two main reasons. One, the polished blade while beautiful makes me fearful that it would get marked up with any sort of use. And two, they’re quite expensive. But I’d love to own one.

Anyways, I’ve seen some in stock recently and am finding it hard to pass up. Do they hold up well? How’s their customer service? Does the polished finish hang around for long? Any feedback is appreciated!

Thank you!

Unless I’m incorrect I dont believe Rockstead makes a slipjoint.
I swear, I cannot seem to post things properly. I figured this was the correct place since it’s a non assisted folder. My apologies. But you are correct.

Why not try posting in the correct forum, which would be here----

First though just use the search function. There are many posts discussing those knives.

Lots of experiences here.

I just got a Higo but haven’t put it through its paces yet. It is beautiful though.

Yes, you need one. From all the reports I've seen, the high Rockwell hardness of their ZDP-189 blades (67) makes it very hard to mark up the blade, and the edge holds up forever.

Dutch Bushcraft Knives (DBK) on YouTube has done a few torture tests and they hold up pretty well, and very hard to scratch. Metal_Complex on you tube managed to break a very small part of the blade tip off of his Higo II while purposefully abusing it, and still carries it regularly.

I only just got mine, and sent it in to Adam Purvis Blades for a custom pocket clip, so not much chance to use it yet.

Wow, that’s a work of art. Mind me asking what the clip ran you?

I think around $180; and because I bought 2 more Timascus clips for my Spyderco Drunken and CRK Sebenza 31 at the same time, he didn't charge me the extra for return insurance. Your mileage may vary. Mine is Black Timascus (because of the grey areas) and White Timascus is more color dense.

You can follow Apurvisblades on Instagram to see him post about when he has his next drop (usually once a month I think). Along with about 10-15 production clips, he also opens up 2 slots for custom clips, where you send in the knife and he makes one for it and sends it back.

Thank you so much! I follow him but unfortunately with my work schedule and the technology “blackout” zones around, I have to assume I’ll never be able to get a spot on a custom clip opening. I’ll have to message him and see what happens; maybe i can send it in and he can get to it when he gets to it.

They're not terrible.

and yes they do work well for their intended purpose other than pocket jewellery. Both of mine have scratches on the blades from use.. and the ren has a few chips which I need to still send back for repair.

They are fairly expensive but should be of very good quality. It was a forum member here - Blues Bender, who used to post bunch
of pictures of his Rockstead, used in work, the mirror finish usually retain its integrity, as other mentioned - due to the higher hardness
of the ZDP steel. If you can afford it, go for it, IMO - they are beautiful knives.

How much of that is scratches? It kind of just looks like a lot of surface residue.

Ohhhh there are scratches still...

Faint but they're there. Ill take some sunlight pics tomorrow and see if i can snag them in the image.

I’ve used my REN a ton. I’ve gotten the blade covered in crap, but everything seems to just wipe off with heavy scrubbing. Nothing wants to stick to the mirror. Haven’t even noticed scratches yet… nothing jumps out and catches the eye.

My custom Pro Tech TR-3 also has a mirror polished blade. It’s a full mirror by Mike Irie in 154CM. It’s sexy, but nowhere near the level of Rockstead’s mirror. Fingerprints and scratches are showing up way easier.

What caused those type of markings?
