Rogue Bladeworks Question on Experience

Dear Benchmade fans of customisation. Checking in with the community to see if anyone has had difficulty ordering from them.

I recently ordered scales from Rogue (a gift for my father's 80th birthday- carbon fibre for mini bugout - trying to give him an alternative to his heavy buck 110), AimFront (ordered ready for Xmas - for bugout) and Cuscadi (wanted to revamp my Griptilian with vintage micarta).

I ordered from Rogue, then Cuscadi followed by AimFront. All orders have arrived except for Rouge. They were available on the website at the time order and were for at least a couple of months after I submitted the order in mid August when payment was accepted.

I have never received a shipping notice. I did contact Rogue through email after one month as I understand things have been difficult through the pandemic and Rogue does state that order may take up to five additional days. At the one month mark I thought a gentle question would be okay.

I received a reply five days later stating that they would check on it, I responded that would be great.

Waited another month....

No reply

Waited another two weeks (end of Oct) sent another friendly email saying I was getting worried, I had sympathy for small business and explained that this was a gift for my fathers' 80th and I wanted him to try something personal from me that was very different than his Buck 110. His birthday was mid Nov could they deliver for then.
Received a reply a couple of days later stating that my emails had gone to spam and they would check on my order. I replied stating that it explains things, I was getting worried and appreciate them looking into this for me.

It was my fathers' birthday a couple of days ago. No scales. I presented him with the min-bugout and explained that I had planned to customise it for him for the scales had not arrived. I promised him I make it right for Xmas. He liked the idea of the knife but was not taken by the orange scales, he's is keeping it ready for the upgrade and continues to carry the big 110.

Emailed Rogue on Nov 17th with the story of the Xmas commitment that I made to my father and have asked if they can supply by that date which I hope that they can as everything that I have heard about their product is good. I also stated that if they cannot meet the commitment to cancel the order so that I can meet my promise with an alternative. So far no answer.

All of the communication was handled by replying to the order confirmation email so it should standout in any email inbox.

I do not want to purchase another set of scales without receiving the funds from the original purchase as this add up to a huge cost for a mini-bugout but if I don't have a way forward soon I'm likely to miss my Xmas promising to the old fella.

I expect that most folks have had a great experience with Rogue and that I am in exception. Just wondering if that is the case.

I've posted in Benchmade as I wanted to share with a smaller group. I've been a member here since 2005 and collecting knives for a couple of decades longer than that. This is the first time I've had an experience like this (other than Canadian customs seizing Benchmades purchased from US suppliers).

Unfortunately, this is not the first time I've heard of something like this from Rogue...

Hi tomhosang, thank you for sharing that review. There are very strong similarities between that review and my experience so far. At this point everything has been polite but I do feel neglected as a customer.

Good to know. I have toyed with the idea of pimping out one of my knives and always liked RBW ever since the Bugout came out. However, since I live a stones throw south of you, I don't want to take any chances.

The big western blade store sells Flytanium and they have evolved into rather nice looking scales. I like the look of DOAT as well but since we live in a hostile land, I like buying from Canadian retailers. Less chance of losing anything to the pirates.

edit: I would hold off buying from W&W, as they have effectively been cut off from all road transportation. Bloody weather.

Hi colin.p,
I'm still hoping that RBW will respond and deliver within the next four weeks but the hope has dwindled. I believe that the product is good based on reviews but would really like them to reply and confirm delivery or return the payment. I may look to flytanium as an alternative or purchase again from AimFront. I have had good luck with W&W but did see that they have issues with delivery due to the flooding. Will let this thread know how this story ends. Good to hear from a neighbour.

Did I understand your post correctly?
You placed an order in August and still have not received the scales from Rogue in mid November??
That is insane.
I have ordered scales from Flytanium, AWT and RGT and got them all within 2 weeks. And I am
in Northern Japan!!

I just checked Rogue's website and of the 18 scales they offer only 3 are in stock. Looks to me like
they might be having inventory/supply issues. I would cancel the order, get a refund if not from Rogue through
your credit card company, and buy the scales you want from another source.

Hi KenHash, Yes ordered in mid August. I also received orders from AimFront in US and Cuscadi in Germany both of which reached Canada within 4 weeks. I have asked RBW to honour the order by Xmas or cancel the order. I will need to resort to the credit card company if I do not hear back from my last communication. I was going to give them a week to respond then move forward with an order elsewhere. It's a shame because the scales that I ordered really fit the bill.

I bought RBW CF Scales for my Mini-B.
It took a while for them to arrive: but they were worth waiting for!
NOTE: The stand-off spacing seems to be just a tiny bit different. You can't leave one Grivory scale in place; while starting to install the CF Beauties...

Hey Bob, Thanks for the images and advice for installation. The Carbon Fiber blades that you have are the ones that I have ordered. I have been waiting since mid August and some of my emails have been ignored. I received two responses ( a month apart) stating that they would check into my order but no reply following that.

Everything that I have seen is consistent with your comment regarding the product itself which is why I have waited so long.

Great looking bugouts. Thanks for sharing.

Well I have a positive update to share.

Reply to Bob's post prompted me to pinged RBW asking them to please deliver for Xmas or cancel the order today (before I contacted the credit card company) and I have received a reply. They have apologized for the experience and stated that they have been having issues with email and "real mail". The scales that I had ordered are not available but could could ship an alternative today (plain carbon fiber) if I wanted to proceed.

I agreed to proceed and have received a shipping notice. I have to admit that this experience did create some stress and frustration but hopefully a happy ending.

Glad to see that a light has appeared at the end of the tunnel for you! 👍

Excellent that it all worked out. The Bugout (and mini) are my favorite EDCs, but those grivory scales just beg to be
replaced. I have bugouts in G10, Micarta and CF.

I have ordered three sets. Shipping was not fast, but all arrived and the fit was excellent. None took more than a month to arrive.

It’s good to hear you handled the situation without name-calling and/or slagging RBW all over social media, as so many people do. Errors happen for a variety of reasons and sometimes they’re multiple.
(BTW, I’ve always had good experiences with RBW & their products).

Hi there sre1 and Elite_KG, I appreciate the feedback. I was concerned as I had made multiple attempts to contact RBW with limited responses. The good news is that I did eventually receive the product and the quality was perfect. I wanted to be carefully not to unfairly label RBW based on my experience alone.

Thanks for taking the time to provide your experience.

First post, and have to say that there is never an excuse for a company not informing you about potential issues with your order. I'm glad you got some other items that were acceptable but all that time without a peep from them. Not good.
