I finally got one of the original Thug variations. At the time these came out the Thug was the only model in the line that was hollow ground, they soon changed it to flat grind to match the Hoodlum and Punk. I believe that was 2013. Ive been looking for one for a couple years. If you google the model you will see pics all over the place of the hollow ground version. But if you order you would get the flat grind.

Hard to find these now. If you come across one and have any interest at all. Pick it up. Ron knew what worked and you won't be disappointed.

Weight difference is slight.
Hollow ground. 11,70oz
Flat grind. 11.85oz
Sheaths are identical.
These are some of the best woods knives around. They hold an edge, 5160 steel is tough, easy to sharpen. My user I stripped the paint. Love the plain steel look.

Great information. Thank you.

I ended picking one of these up about a month ago after locating a website that had 5 new in stock for a really reasonable price. Since it was a website that I had never done business with before or even heard of before, I was a bit leery that I would receive the knife, but sure enough 7 days later it showed up in the mail in a huge Buck yellow/black box. After reading this post I checked the grind and sure enough it is a flat grind. I just checked the website again and now they show it as a discontinued item. :(

Overall, I am thrilled with the purchase and the quality of the knife. I can't wait to try it out when I go camping in Yosemite National Park next week.

Awesome purchase.

Why on Earth are these discontinued??? My Reaper is one of my favorite outdoors blades but the few minor improvements I would like to see on it (carbon steel, flat grind, micarta handles) are all in the Thug. I should have gotten one while they were around :mad:

They surface now and again. Keep an eye out. I ordered a Swamp Rat Ratmandu and a Tops Tex Creek XL to play around with testing all 3. Im pretty sure the Thug will still be my favorite.
