Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

Very pretty, R8shell.
A little smaller than a peanut, but with the blade selection, I'd guess even more useful.

Thanks, afishhunter. I like having a small straight edge with me, so little companion knives like this one go well along with a larger pocketknife. There aren't many knives that make a peanut look big.

Waited a long time for this one. Of the two stockists of Rough Rider Knives that I know of in England, one doesn't stock this knife at all and the other has had it out of stock for ages. So very surprised that my partner managed to get me this one for Christmas. Got to say it has been worth the wait. Lovely tactile and robust feel to this knife. Comfortable in the hand with tight, but not stiff, springs. Sharp, centred blades with good bevels. Lovely smooth bone scales and an authentic overall look. No problems with the nail nicks being obscured as in other reviews. Great to finally have a Barlow. :)

Very glad you got the one you were after Blake! :thumbup:The Ivory Bone Barlow like all RR Barlows comes very decently finished with all the right attributes. Here's mine that has had Scrim and the single blade Mini Barlow which is also a very credible carry.

Thanks, Will

Very nice work on that two blader Will, it has to be said. A competent hand indeed. Bet the single blade is a comfortable carry too. Can't fault these knives at all really.

Great looking Barlows. I got to get one with the single blade.

Here is one (RR) I recently acquired for about five bucks.

I finally got around to taking a few pictures of this tiny black pearl Rough Rider: 2 1/4"

...
That black lip pearl looks fantastic, r8shell, but 2.25" is definitely tiny!

The white pearlish covers look good on your copperhead, Dave.

That sailing whaling ship scrim on your RR Barlow is choice, Will!

Thanks, GT. It's surprisingly good MOP. Maybe it's easier to find good quality pieces of it when they're so small.

I admire the scrimshaw on that Barlow, Will.

For anyone concerned about buying a new Rough Rider with "Celluloid" handles, I received a reply to an email I sent them on that subject:

Hello Steve

Thank you for your inquiry. The handles you have asked about are indeed made of modern synthetic material and will not fail like the old celluloid product..

Please contact me for further information.

It is safe to buy them.

Thanks for following up on that, Steve. They probably thought it was a good old-fashioned sounding description not knowing the concern it would cause the small percentage of their customers who know what it would actually mean.

Yes, thank you for posting that info about RR celluloid. Now I don't have to keep my RR painted desert canoe on a shelf by itself. [emoji4]

I went out of my way and ordered a Rough Rider RR920 pocket knife for an eight-year old's birthday gift. His Grandma approves and I'll turn it over to her to gift to the boy This will be in late march. It's nice giving a young man his first knife. There's nothing like a "rite of passage" that a boy's first knife will provide.

I changed my mind and ordered an RR111 Rough Rider Orange Bone Handled Peanut. He'll like it even more.

I got this Marbles Ram Horn Barlow a while back. It has a green tint to it that doesn't show up in the picture, and the orange spot I can't figure out. It's on the cover but I have no idea what it is or how to remove it. Overall it's a nice little knife.

Maybe the person who assembled your knife (or cut the horn into slabs) had an "oopsie"?
Great looking knife, even with the orange spot.
Worst case, that spot can help identify it as your knife.

I decided to order an RR111 Peanut and will be giving it to the boy. I think that this will be the perfect "first pocket knife" for him. Grandma agrees.
