Does such an animal exist ?

I need some checkering done on the inside of a 1/2 " radius on a piece of steel that is also rounded on the edge.

Hi Mark
I ran into this problem a couple times. Brownells sells a checkering file with only 2 teeth for inside and close work. You might check with them?

If you have a milling machine you can make your own ! Try Brownells !

A triangular needle file might do the trick...

The triangle file is actually used to finish the grooves. The checkering file is supposed to set the spacing. They wear out fast if you cut the entire groove with them but I do it anyway especially on the fine lines per inch.

I looked at Brownells website and see that they do carry 1/2" wide files.

Does anyone know if they have lines on the sides ? About two lines is all that would be doable on a compound angle.

they dont have lines on the side I dont think. BE sure to grind off the "skinny" "extra" line of teeth if it comes that way. The file I used needed one side removed to have all uniform cut lines.

Thats a great idea but mine dont have lines on the sides. Im sure I bought my 2 line file from them. Did you call them?
You could always buy the 1/2" one and grind it down to 2 lines.

I didnt call Bruce , but I will.

I may just end up stacking 3 of the thin cut-off wheels with piece of paper in between and just kinda "Jig" the spot that needs it.

Check Brownells again, searching for "Checkering". Leave out the word "files". There are lots of carbide checkering tools...

That may explain why my few attempts at checkering were embarassing....
