I just got my New Raven WSK the other day and I was itching to get out and play with it.

A big old dead tree had fallen across the 4X4ing trail behind the house. It's well seasoned and tough so I figured it'd be a good place to see what it was made of.
I started with the toughest and thickest limbs first. The new carbon steel Raven ate them up.

As I progressed both up and down the tree it didn't slow at all.Though the micarta handles are still a little slick they are quite a bit improved over the previous generation.I got tired before the raven did.

All that chopping there was only one very small dent that I sharpened out with a normal medium stone. The factory edge is good but it's very good now.The sharpmaker saw to that.
The blade coating is tough stuff.I have been hacking random trees and plants all day and it's just dirty. No scratches.
I look forward to really beating this thing out in the deep woods soon.

Savagesicslayer, Had mine at a campout over the weekend and it did well also. Stayed sharp and chopped well. I too was impressed with the blade coating. The chopping strength it has with the handle design is very comfortable. The little ESK that came with it was nice for preping food and utility work around camp. I also found that it was easy to sharpen them both. Definately a keeper.

Red Scorpion Six... wasnt that the guy who got banned? I thought he was importing cheap chinese knives and selling them as his own with new handles? Or am I mistaken somewhere in that tale?

They are made overseas but at the same quality as some of the higher end stuff you see from major knife companies. The ones I have are great quality and tough as hell. They stay good and sharp and I guess that's all I can ask from a knife/tool.

There was a lot of heat for these knives when RS6 first started.

I myself wanted the raven because I didn't have enough money to blow away on a Tops tracker but I have seen a pic somewhere on this forum showing the tip of the RS6 knife break off from batonning.. Certainly an issue I hope that was corrected in later versions of this knife.

A nice thing about RS6 is that you can have the raven without the saw, and a bit of a clip point. that for me makes it more attractive. also has a variety of sheaths to choose from.

If there are more satisfied RS6 customers I'd certainly like to hear from them because this would be a knife I'd be interested in trying, especially after seeing pitdog turning primal on us.

The RS6 knife that was broken was mine.I broke it chopping frozen birch. It was 44c and ground too thin.A QC miss. They replaced it without a problem. The new Raven is a tougher carbon steel. It looks meaner too.

The guy got banned for posting sales ads and stuff in the incorrect forums after being warned repeatedly not to do it, if I remember correctly. I think he even had his own forum for a very brief period, as an authorized manufacturer (dealer?).

And has returned repeatedly to shill/praise his own knife while posing as satisfied customers... :thumbdn:

Looks Awesome SS, I like the fact that it is carbon, I bet its twice as tough as the first model. Gene

He got banned the same day as his new forum went up, it was a makers forum.
It turned out he was a dealer buying knives made in china in bulk.

Where he had the knives made was not in question. The fact is the knife is great and besides all the politics it is a great made knife that gets the job done. That is what this post is about. Helping people with real life reviews so they don't waste money on junk. This is a tough knife set for the money that will get the job done regardless if he got ban for breaking some rules.

I'm not saying the knives are junk.
I'm saying that he told everyone here on the forums that he was a knife maker while he was actually a dealer importing knives from China.

Fair enough. I guess that also has a couple sides. If you do some of the work to making it and all the trouble getting it produced are you a maker? I would say yes. I don't want to take away from the review with this. Thank you Savagesicslayer for the great pics and the time for a review!!! Great job!

Nice! I still haven't had a chance to try out a WSK, I've handled a Koster blank before it had much work done to it, but I'd love to have a chance to try one of these out soon. Nice looking blade!

i have both the raven esk set and the predator knives and both are excellent quality and hold a good edge so i dont see why people throw such a fit about it being made over season... anything short of being straight up custom is made overseas to cut down costs so why complain about the little things.... anyway heres mine... enjoy the knife porn lol

I started using the ESK as my EDC instead of the one in my avatar. Love it for food prep.

I've beat the snot outta my Raven WSK for almost a year now and my only regret is that I didn't buy another before RS6 retired its production.

-It came sharp..and has stayed sharp with miniimal effort.
-It's practical in almost any application :
A. The 6 inch, ergo friendly handle gives you the option of choking up and using the draw-knife portion of the blade for (VERY Comfortable!) controlled cuts, or choking down and using the ax-like head of the blade to maximize leverage for chopping (DEEP Bites!).
B. The optional saw-back serrations (not meant for "sawing") can be used to make notches for setting traps, building shelter, etc.
*FLAW--Saw-back = reason I say "practical for almost any application" because they serve little (or no) purpose for most users and more than likely weaken the tip of the blade, which is the sole reason I won't baton with my WSK.
(But hey...they look cool)
---I've dented the 1095 blade many times + fixed it in no time with a DMT stone.
---Finally... the Raven WSK is well-balanced and an ideal size...making it easily portable and ideal for any short or long-term outing.

+++ In my experience, RS6 Pres. (Aaron Something) is an honest and stand-up guy. +++

(Credit goes to Mr. Dave Beck for engineering of the odd, yet practical blade design, but RS6 has toned every detail and pushed the design to its max potential. IMO)

What's the difference between this and a Tracker by Tom brown? I had one and sold it. Not sharp, hard to sharpen and heavy as hell.
